Blood of Heros tribute

Why did they find it necessary to post the "Pictures of Death" all over the internet.

Yup, it is a HUGE victory for the US, and I am glad they are gone, BUT... why post the pics? Just dosen't seem right.

Alright, let me have it...

Could have been worse, I heard Bush and Cheney wanted to parade on the White House lawn with Uday and Qusay's heads on a stick but the military turned them down. ;)

Double standards

It is against the Geneva convention as we stated earlier when they put our men on TV. Bush makes up the rules as he goes. He has lowered us again. :(

Personally, I'd parade them around in a vat of pig entrails and pig blood.

Really, the whole issue is credibility. The Arab world is so used to be lying to by their own leaders that the only thing they will believe is what they can actually see. The photos weren't even enough. Now the reporters have to have a firsthand look.

Kind of like the Elvis Syndrome. There are lots of people that don't believe he is buried at Graceland in Memphis.

Hopefully, the bodies will be turned over to the Iraqis and they can do as they please with them.

I would like to tie there bodies to my bumper and pull them down the rode till there is nothing but ?And if they could find there old man I would drag him alive. Them people over there are quite different than us.

Actually it is not agaisnt the geneva convention because they were not Prisoners of War look it up if you don't belive me, and it was not our government that posted the picture on the internet it was the media. Well maybe it was Al Gore he invented the internet you know and Ford owns Cummins. While it is always possible to be a hoax the Iraqi people wanted some type of proof that they are dead, so the interim Iraqi government released the picture not George Bush. People are up in arms about this, who really cares? In what way did the posting of the pictures effect your life? I say the ******** got what they deserved, personally I would have to agree with Jumbo jet about the pig entrails. Just my 2 cents

When you spend your life being lied to and manipulated, the only proof you will accept is what you see with your own eyes and touch with your own hands. Everything else would be considered a "hoax". Fear changes people in amazing ways.

I myself didnt feel it was in "good taste".

Having said that... . if it saves just ONE American soldiers life, I think they did the right thing.

What the other guys said, the Iraqi's are terrified that they may still be alive.

Some of them may NEVER believe theyre dead, but if we convince just a few, I believe it will save American lives.

What I'm hearing is that about 40% believe the news on this.

I see no problem with the posting of the pictures, it should be noted the release was media driven and not military.

Our society has suddenly turned squeamish? Gimme a break. Wasn't too many moons ago we were seeing butchered American soldiers paraded around the streets of Mogadishu, people jumping out of the WTC in flames, etc etc.

We are at war. It is not clean and antiseptic. Real people die. In the past, our media was much more truthful with the images they showed the people. Look at the reporting of the Hindenburg, of WWII and Vietnam, the concentration camps. Life Magazine alone had enormous impact on the public psyche for decades with their powerful photos. One I will never forget showed an Australian POW about to be beheaded by a Japanese officer, the sight of that soldier kneeling in the sand with that guy standing over him with sword raised high had a huge impact on me, making me sick with fury and sadness decades after it had been taken.

There is a famous quote that goes along the lines: "It is good that war is so horrible, else we should grow too fond of it. " Show the people the outcome, they need to see what is being done in their name.

The public can stand it. Current TV and movie "entertainment" shows ample tolerance for the subject matter... .

just wondering who you heard that from... ... ...

can you provide us a link or at least a quote????

big jake

THE FORD GUY!!!!!!!

There are very good OBJECTIVE reasons for the display

1. There are large groups of Iraqi people with a vested interest in restoring the Saddam dictatorship

a. people such as ranking military people, members of the elite groups such as the republican guard, members of the Baath party, etc,-------all of whom enjoyed great advantage so long as they were part of the control group. They could take what they pleased from the regular people of the country and there could be no complaint; they shared in the wealth denied regular citizens.

They have all lost that now, but as long as they thought there was a chance that either;

ii. We could be persuaded to turn tail and run if they caused the loss of enough of our people, or

Saddam and crowd might get back in power,

they had incentive to fight on and to incite others to fight on.

Displaying these bodies (as proof that it actually was these two thugs, proof that they would accept because they knew and would recognize them, and not just a false claim ) cuts into that incentive to fight and to try to incite others to fight on.

b. Our forces are trying to gain the cooperation of the Iraqi people for many reasons---especially their assistance in finding the big three (now big one), weapons etc,

Many of those people have seen that in the past Saddam and sons were great at staging comebacks. So long as they had fear Saddam and the Baaths might return, they would be more afraid to cooperate and assist our forces.

Seeing that the two sons of a , er I mean the two sons of Saddam, will NOT return to torture and kill and rape, they can now be less afraid and therefor more likely to give the help we would like.

For both these groups, a mere claim by us that we had destroyed thses two mad dogs would very likely been met with disbelief.

Seeing the bodies, recognizing them as in fact these two, will serve both the above purposes.

There was no evil, insensitive or immoral motive-------simply the practical, and perhaps, the ONLY way that each of these groups would in fact KNOW that these two are dead and that it was not a emply claim by the USA.

Don't whine

Can't have it both ways, I suggest we don't whine the next time Al jeera shows dead Americans. New level of low... ..... :( There has been many cases of pictures released by the media, this one is released by OUR government. And when Saddam's is dead, is it over? No, not hardly..... Our word used to be our honor, now with Bush, "bring em on". But, take their picture first, or no one will believe us... ... . :D

Why is everyone so concerned about showing these two dead bodies on TV, but not concerned about all the violence on TV, the movies, video games, etc? I don't get it.

Again, all I see is sniping, whining and crying with no constructive recommendations being offered. For all of you who don't think photos should have been released, what would you do to convince the Iraqi populace that Saddam's sons have really been taken out?

Rusty

Even

Even the pictures didn't convince some of the populace. No pictures, put the bodys on display in Baghdad. Let the people come in and see for themselves.

There is a difference...

There is a big difference between showing the US soldiers bodies and showing the two sons pictures. Our soldiers weren't killed in battle with the other force then picked up. They were captured then executed. Once you capture on of the enemy's men (or women), you can't execute them. Not even point blank with a pistol to the face like our guys got.

Showing the pictures of the sons who were killed in a gun battle is different. They were never captured alive then executed. They wouldn't surrender and were killed in a fire fight. Big difference.
