HVAC,

What was your boost at stock? I don't have guages yet.

305/616 sounds very tempting. Is is stage I or II ???

What does it involve? I would like to buy the parts and have it installed here in CANADA.

Where is DMann located?

The first thing I have to do is correct an error on my last post regarding my boost levels. I used to run 33lbs. with the box on, now with the box off and the new injectors in I'm still over 30, and now with the new injectors and the box on I max my guage. I don't know what my stock readings were since the first thing that went on was the box. The electronics won't let you make more that 20. 5 lbs.

Super Mario, Dman is in Las Vegas, NV.

By the way, Scott1 is in Calgary also, you should look him up. I gave him a catalog and a price sheet.

My kit is the stage III. We installed the new injectors which I think most folks could accomplish. Then we installed the brass elbow in place of the stock one. Then we plugged in the boost module which is inline with the stock wiring at the back of the head. The stage III kit is $1,000. 00 in comparison to another brand stage III at $3,000. 00.

I may right up some injector replacement tips for you Rammers.

Am I correct here, the boost module from Diesel Dynamics is used to interupt the actual boost signal when above 20 psi and hold the signal at 20 psi? I suppose the reason for this is two-fold. First, by interupting the signal, the computer never knows the engine is creating more power. Second, the pump does not cut back power when over 20 psi. If all this is true, how do the other companies (TST, BCD, etc... ) increase fuel delivery when over 20 psi? Is the pump cutting back power, but the box continues to increase the signal? Please iron me out here. Thanks.

HVAC, Dman: I've got the 275 injectors in right now. Should I install the boost module only and forget about a Blue Chip box? What kind of hp could I expect out of the 275 inj's and the boost module without anyother BOMBing? Will the stock exhaust stand it? Or should I add the Scotty air and 4" exhaust? Try and remember the feeling of seeing your boost gauge peg at 18psi. That's where many of us are living right now and all of these postings are making us hungry for more.

HVAC, thanks for the loads of info you've shared, and for going out on a limb for us. No advertising can convey a product's true nature like getting it direct from someone with firsthand experience. I really appreciate HVAC taking the time to share his experience, and to answer all our questions in detail.

I am impressed with the power developed without an EGT penalty and lack of smoke (I guess smoke opacity and EGTs are directly related, for the most part--??) I am anxious to BOMB my truck but gotta wait a little while to save some cash, but injectors and gauges will be at the top of the list!!

MichaelT, your all over it(expression). The boost module will allow the pump to continue to supply fuel to the engine during horsepower moments. Normally (I don't like being normal), if the ecm senses the boost exceeding 20. 5 lbs. boost, it will cause the pump to slow fuel delivery which will bring the boost into spec. This means you are cheated out of the hp you and your engine would otherwise enjoy. The boost module will not allow the ecm to see a signal over spec, it will feed a signal to the ecm which will allow the pump to operate at a level otherwise not achieved.

The Blue Box will communicate directly with the pump and tell it to go like there is no tomorrow! It circumnavigates and overcomes
the oem electronics.

HVAC, got a couple questions for ya'

Is your engine any quieter now, especially in the morning when you first fire up? I imagine it doesn't get too chilly where you're at in the Bay area but I imagine you can tell a difference nonetheless. Mine is a clatterbox now that temps are in the 30s & 40s these days.

Also, how is idle smoothness and low-speed driveability compare before and after installation? Idle speed changed at all?

Another thought, it will be interesting to see if the intercooler can hold up over the long run (engine & driveline as well) with frequent blasts of 40+ psi of boost. Of course we know the clutch can't take it!!

Ninearrow, your a great web friend! Will somebody find Porky, where the heck was Porky at dieselfest?

Ninearrow, maybe you can glean something from my previous posts, but the boost module and the brass elbow for the wastegate would serve you well IMHO. I just came back from an 80 mile sojourn, and I am making 32 lbs. boost (no box). I am interested in the concept of the boost module as a solo modification. I gave Evan a module to try and if CCollar muscles up, we will have the information you seek. I cannot comment in terms of low boost where I am at performance wise (no comprendo). I can tell you that if you knew the fun I am having with the boost response I enjoy, you wouldn't take up time posting here, you would be out looking for formidable altitude challenges for a rush!

Vaughn, you have to understand that my symptoms are advanced, what is normal to some is substandard to me. This discussion on the BB is like mind candy to me, not to mention vindication of the position I have taken regarding my pursuit of horsepower happyness.

Let it be known that Diesel Dynamics is planning to have a portable dyno at May Madness, so make plans to attend. I'll be there in the thick of it, and I would enjoy your presence.

The boost module could be installed by a blind person! It can easily be removed too.
I mounted mine on the relay box on the drivers side fender.

HVAC, I know this post is going to ruffle a few of your feathers, but it's not intended in any way with disrespect. The question I have is: How is it possible to transmit 920 foot pounds of torque to a dyno with a stock clutch that's rated for 680 f/p's? The reason I ask this is: I was able to easily slip a fairly new factory clutch, in 4th and 5th gears with just a TST #10 plate, 14cm housing and Banks exhaust and 36 psi of boost. This combination "which I never dynoed" is supposedly in the 330 /750 range according to TST. This was the reason why I went to the Centerforce clutch. With this experience, I question the numbers you are reporting. It doesn't make sense to me that a stock clutch could hold this much power on a dyno especially after repeated abuse. I would believe more that the dyno wasn't correctly "dialed" in yet. OK. I'm hunkered down now so let the words fly.

DBR, I think I posted earlier that I was the second truck on the dyno and we don't believe
the dyno is dialed in yet (although it is close based on prior dyno specs on Dman's rig). Dman is doing coast down tests to calculate the bearing drag with the new design. It has about 5 more bearings than the stock dyno. He has a physicist working on this to determine the proper modifications to the program to compensate.

As far as my specs, I am quite surprised at the max figures as well, but!, that was never the purpose for my trip. The purpose for my trip was to verify a new source for the injecter technology I craved, and I feel that was a success. What I am attempting to do here is share what this technology is all about. If you don't know my experience with "P", I won't dredge up that negitive stuff now. I would prefer to focus on positive information that YOU can benefit from, and enjoy your your truck even more. I would draw attention to my strong stock figures and suggest the Scotty air system is effective, I also have a turbo blanket which I put on to keep the heat off the air cleaner. Now I'm beginning to wonder if what they say about heat being benificial to turbo performance is accurate (I think yes). Next I would draw attention to the improvement as a result of the changes we performed a DD. I don't think debating if I have 445 hp or 400 hp is helpful to those reading these posts. My new clutch should be here today with a little luck, hopefully I'll get more than one dyno run this time.

HVAC; I was at the dieselfest in Long beach, from about 9:00 am until about 2:00 pm and had a great time. I was disappointed that there were no nametags!! I told my buddy (shortpeterbilt) that the first thing I was gonna do was look you up, but with that many people there, it didn't work out. You may have seen me--at 6'5" and 300+ pounds of solid table muscle and a buzz haircut, it's pretty easy to spot me!!! I sure wish I'd won the lottery, because a person could've spent a LOT of money and bought a lot of goodies there!! BD had a magic box that supposedly makes over 300 HP--I almost bought one. Only thing is, is I really like Mark at TST and find him very credible and he also sells a magic box!! I think what I'll probably do is follow your advice--if you give me your opinion!!! Stock 1999 ISB cummins, with the exception of an in box K&N filter and a exhaust system with nothing but a 24"x 3. 5" glasspack into a four inch chrome tip-BUT- I have an auto trans that I don't thrash, but I do drive fast on the hwy. I'm thinking of driving the 260 miles to Las Vegas, NV and having DD put in just the injectors. Question to you is which ones? and would there be an improvement? I'd appreciate your "BOMBED" opinion and will go from there! Again, sorry I missed you-- WE ALL NEED NAME TAGS at these events with both our forum name and real name!! Hope to see you at May madness!! Sam

Geeezzz Porky, bummer we couldn't find you. We were at the north end of the show n shine group. Evan had his green truck entered and Scott1 had his dually entered. Arlan was entered and had a huge camper. Saw Benson and Mike there, had a number of people say "We see you post on the BB" which was nice.

Back to POWER, Porky the BD box is the same as the Blue Box, very potent. Marks box is a little tamer and possibly more sane. He has a switch on it now, that's good. I have been suggesting that folks install the injectors and boost module first and then decide about a box. You should check out DD and talk to Lawrence about the Stage II and III. If I had spotted you we could have driven my truck and you could see the power the III provides. I have trouble recommending less than the III, and I sure think the boost module is valuable. If you go with the II injectors, give thought to adding the module, I don't know of anything negative about it. It will allow you more boost which will burn the fuel more completely and should translate to mileage. I got 22mpg on the way home, stoked! I worry about the auto transmission and maybe Lawrence can advise you on any problems there. We will see you at May Madness for sure, DD will have a booth. Having trucks on the dyno will be great!

Last weekend I installed a set of the TST RV injectors (Bosch parts, new)on an automatic 24 valve. The way it ran upholds the estimate of 50 hp and 100 ft lb in that appication (30 hp and 60 ft lb in 5 speeds).

I will look into the extrude hone process by visiting Diesel Dynamics sometime soon because I am wondering if the injector valve seals as well after that process, or if there is a chance the injectors can leak. I have heard horror stories about P injectors leaking.

I would be scared to have any more power, so don't know if I could stand it to try his injectors [at 216 hp now! #ad
you know, uprated from 215 hp stocker rating]. Actually I'm trying the marine stuff per my "what if" dreaming with Piers and his FINALLY getting a couple sets of them from Germany or somewhere--they are hard to get. Darn guy tried a set in HIS truck--the nerve!--before sending me a set.

I'm just afraid that my pore ole small block inline 6 is too humble to turn the roller without help. And, I'm still waiting for the superturbo. Once again Piers keeps me waiting. Just because he has the parts books and found the number first, and got the first one. Have pipes, etc. waiting and am suffering. Hope my Ram gets a new toy for Xmas. Its been good all year and deserves it. Maybe 217 hp.

Piers said Ted J. is waiting for one of the superturbos. I wonder if we can get him one with his favorite 12 cm2 housing #ad
Those of us who like max airflow will be happy with the 18. 5 cm2 it comes with. Flex those head bolts! Get all the boost you deserve, and keep the drive pressure below the boost pressure. Novel idea--gee, the semi truck engines all do that, so why would anyone want to be backwards with 70 psi drive pressure (backpressure in the exhaust manifold) and only 35-40 psi boost?

Joe - Did the RV injectors in the 5spd application actually test out at +30hp/60lbs rather than the +40hp (235 + 40 = 275) as advertised ??

Not trying to be picky, but I didn't know if that was a typo, or ??... 10hp is 10hp!!

Thanks, Rob

Joseph Donnelly, your killing me with the 216 horsepower thing. Whatever else, it is good to have you add to this topic. I do respect Mark and I take your word for his developing the brass elbow with the orifice to enhance boost. I hope I have described it's purpose correctly. I am sure you could provide a good match for Lawrence's new dyno! Bring some ear plugs!
