Thanks. A retired EPA official was talking(Fox of course, not welcome on the others) about the 25+ blends of gasoline required by the oil companies to satisfy the various state's mandates. He stated that a lot of dough could be saved,by going with 6-8 blends. He said that the air quality doesn't stop nor start at state boundaries. :)

BTW,two Nissan Leafs have been purchased here lately. Lots of money for a multi-hour recharge only to go under a hundred miles before you do it all over again. I'm amazed people are buying into this product in it's infancy,but then that's Cali. :{

So what component/additive is used to raise Cetane in diesel fuel at the refinery? Or is it a component of the fuel itself?

Also, I dive in Arizona a lot. I can not tell the difference in the way the fuel "Foams" between the fuel I buy in So Cal vs the fuel I buy in Arizona. They both foam.

I have talked to a couple of guys that work at a refinery in Salt Lake City, Utah. Both of them tell me aside from removing the sulphur, there are no lubrication additives in the diesel. We get one type of diesel at the pumps - #2. There is a summer blend & a winter blend - no performance options.

I have also talked with a couple of the drivers that deliver fuel to my usual fill-up spot & they tell me they don't add anything to the fuel either.

I chose to run additives, truck behaves better to me.

I spoke to our mechanics at the school system where I retired from here in San Diego. I asked if they'd ever seen a fuel related issue since the introduction of ULSD. Negative. That's maintaining and repairing hundreds of full size coaches, bobtails and tilt cab Hinos like I drove. They do get tankers of fresh fuel and the underground tanks are very new also.

I may be remembering wrong. But from I think I remember hearing about the lubricity issue, I thought it mostly had to do with cummins engines with a vp44.

Something about hundreds of vehicles and no fuel system issues just doesn't track. They were saying they replaced no injectors, replaced no pumps, no seals, no LP's for any reason.

My question would had to have been just WHAT did they do?

They probably pump out of the same underground tank and charge a little more just to give you a warm fuzzy feeling :-laf

BTW... I like the warning tags zip tied to the handle :-laf

Leave it to BP to have green noozles on gas hoses, when most of the rest of the world uses green boots on diesel noozles. SNOKING

That's a good point. It is potentially confusing to diesel fuel buyers. I think BP is the only station that does that.

Bad People, British Pr!cks, Broken Pipes, Broken Promises, Big Polluters :-laf

Don't bash me cuz these were all heard from their own employees! :-laf

Edit: Boogered Pumps

mac,

Fuel additives is the oldest argument in dieseldom and will probably continue as long as private citizens are "allowed" by dictators to own and drive them.

Most of the devotees to the fuel additive religion already have selected their own "facts" and don't want to read or hear any additional information.

We have to ignore it and move on.

Thank you!

No offence to krtcummins :)

Just repeating what they said. That doesn't discount wear items, they just couldn't pinpoint it to contaminated fuel induced. I can say,I don't remember any of our 4 cyl. Hinos ever having injectors or lift pumps replaced. Most of them have around 250K now. Mine was at 245K without any injector issues. One head gasket, ignition switch, water pump, and numerous brake jobs in 245K. I drove it from new.

Our buses are retired after about five yrs which is mandated by the government and CARB,so problems were probably coming up.
