In the process of changing out my exhaust elbow and exhaust to the full 4 in system and I have read several times comments about the 06 and up manifolds flowing better than the 03. Any truth to this and what exactly is the difference, bigger runners or is it just beefier?

Before have it all apart visit Geno's garage and pick up one of the two peice manifolds will save you greef later as the stock ones tend to shrink and crack. Will also flow better than anything that comes from the factory.

As much as I want to I was exploring this option because I was tight on money and though if there was preformance gain with switching to a newer stock manifold i would

I guess I stumbled onto several coments the 2006 and up manifolds flow better and was wondering if anyone can say it's true or not. Just a cheap upgrade if it's true

As far as I know the manifolds never changed. The cast elbow on the back of the turbo as well as the downpipe went from 3. 5" to 4" in 04. 5.

Due to cracking problems and the hp race maybe they improved the casting and added more flow. You could probably get an '06-'07 manifold cheap now but there are other aftermarket manifolds out besides ATS that are cheaper I believe. ATS is a nice piece. I didn't feel that it needed any finishing work. I noticed lower cruising boost after installation. EGTs weren't an issue for me and with the turbo and exhaust install at the same time they never really changed much.

06 manifold

Ok this is a topic i need to look into. . a couple questions ... I have a 03 with a six speed with a edge juice widgit in it. . My diesel doctor has dyno numbers that show the 06 turbo is more efficent than my 03. . is that because of the manifold? I have since bought a new 06 turbo and am waiting for it to arrive. will it fit on my truck with out any mods? If not what do i need? Sorry for hijacking the thread!! Thanks guys

The 06 will have a electronic wastegate compared to a mechanical gate on the 03. If you can swap those parts... I have never tried.

'06 turbo is an He 351. '03's had a he 341. The 351 has a bigger compressor and turbine 60mm a piece. It will flow more air and its map is slightly larger. It is efficient at a slightly higher boost pressure. Do some searches for more info on the swap. Spoolup is almost identical. For the little time and $$$ it takes it is very worthwhile.
