My dipstick tube was cracked and leaking oil so I went to change it. I thought I'd just pull it out as it just pushes into the block and seals with an oring. The tube broke off right where it goes into the block. I removed the starter to get a better look, can't see much. I've tried threading things into it and pulling it out, I've tried easy outs, nothing seems to work. It looks like I need to remove oil pan and push it out from underneath. From what I can find out you lift the front of the engine with a crane, remove mounting bolts, and once engine almost touches firewall you can remove pan. I now have a 1/4 tap broke off in dipstick and feel pretty dumb. I guess I should have checked here. Any advice?

I was thinking about that myself. The only downside is could it ever wear its way through the oil pickup screen due to turbulence at the intake. I've seen this happen on old Mercedes diesels after a vacuum pump failure where all the ball bearings from the failed pump are not removed from the pan.

Tap isn't plastic.

I would just push it into the pan. If it won't go down easily, hammer it down. Not a BFH, but lightly tap it in.

Now that I think about it, you are sunk. It all will need to probably be drilled out. But drilling a tap is a *****. From the top or bottom, once the pan is removed. Hard lesson learned.
