Rod bearing failures on a CR ISB are not unusual, usually injector induced. The constant beating from a failing injector will take out the bearings with the end result a window in the block. Coolant into the engine intake gets into the crank case and sludge's the oil, since the CR's rely heavily on piston cooling via small oil galleries, an EGR cooler failure is as bad as an injector failure. A suspect rod bearing failure requires a tear down or the chances of a new engine are high.
