Is there any way to do that? Twice in the last week I've walked out to a running truck with no idea how it started.

Might be a better way but unplugging the hood latch is the easiest way I can think off. I have but started mine once.

I thought you could shut it off in the EVIC but I just went and looked and there's no option for that, must be a past truck I was thinking of that had that option, possibly my last Chev in 2008.

The only thing I see you can turn off is the horn when you remote start. It's not a feature I really need and having it start without my knowledge
is not a good thing.

How much stuff is in your pocket with the fob?......Once I started keeping my fob in a pocket by itself, my alarm quit going off so much.....

I hang mine outside my pocket, I think the 3mo old grand daughter might have stepped on it when I had her on my lap, might have
pressed it against something at work the other day. Either way, I don't need the feature enough to worry about my truck running all the time.

Wow, my mind just went to a closed up garage with a truck idling all night long. The CO build up. lack of oxygen, fire hazard, people sleeping on the other side of the wall. Self starting trucks could be a really bad thing.

It will only run for 15 minutes and then shut off.

Well I guess that's better. What if you drained the oil and then went inside to eat lunch before refilling. Would you walk up to an idling diesel with no oil pressure? I guess the point I am making is there are times when a (ghost) start could have horrible consequences.

Wont start if any doors are open or the hood is up. Will shut back off if check engine light is on, like low pressure. . This applies to the FACTORY installed remote start cant speak for the aftermarket. I REALLY like mine. use it almost every time I start it. No waiting for the "waite to start light" its running when I get in. If below 40 deg outside the heated seats and steering wheel turn on.

Ok well it sounds like the factory system has all the bases covered.

I've opened up remotes to put scotch tape over the contacts to disable the panic alarms before, might work for remote start.

My ecodiesel starts often if I put the FOB in my pocket and I bend over to pick up stuff like grocery bags, etc. It's ridiculous!

As MConyers mentioned, taping over the offending contact in the remote does the job. Remove the screw that locks the two half's of the remote together, pull apart, apply tape as necessary and reassemble. This might be different if you have a different type of remote. My 2014 RAM 1500 had a different type of remote with actual switches on the circuit board so I cut a little rubber donut out of a piece of inner tube and placed it around the push button switch. That worked good for it.

This looks like it will work good for my 2016.

So, a single push starts it?

My aftermarket remote takes 2 pushes in about a second to start. Same thing with the wife's Honda.

No, it takes two pushes to activate remote start. You'd think this would be enough to protect from false starts but that doesn't seem to be good enough. The other day my wife moved her purse in our bedroom and the next thing I know the truck honks and starts up in the garage. Being in Arizona I don't need or desire this function so that is why I modified the key FOB to delete this feature although it's easy enough to reverse the mod and reclaim the remote start feature.

I have started my truck a number of times when I am working in the garage. I have the truck key and another ring for house keys in my pocket all the time. If I squat down just right it sometimes must get pushed twice. They only run 15 minutes if it does start, so not really an issue even if in a closed garage. The smell might get in the house though.
