I'm probably going to be buying one in the next year or so to replace one of our gassers that is starting to wear out. They are nice, well thought out trucks. But, I don't see them as anything that special.

In my opinion, don't get worked up about sticker price. Research what the invoice price is on a new vehicle to negotiate. Sticker price means nothing. I can't believe with the economy the way it is that a dealer wouldn't sell a new truck at invoice or close to it. ;)

This is a side bar to the original post, but why did you think the Feds made GM and Chrysler close dealerships for. How many dealers are in your area selling new Dodge pickup trucks? Now with less dealers, the selling price will be higher. You will have to buy from that dealer or buy from one that could be up to 50 to 70 miles away or maybe even 150 miles.

I know in my area that at least 5 dealers were closed and these were in a 15 mile radius of my house. The dealer that I bought my truck from was 30 miles away. This was the best price I could get for under $39,000 for an 08 new. He is one of the dealers that was closed.

Just my $0. 02

You know, I think you hit on a good point. We went from having 2 Dodge dealers withing 5 miles of home to the closest now being 25. Much less competition for the same product in this market.

I tried to "spec" one out on the website also, but was disappointed and frustrated. It said I could not get a SRW 3500 long bed 4 door, 6 speed with manual transmission WITH 4. 10 GEARS!!! WTH?! I got frustrated. On the positive side, I did love that the Cummins is STANDARD on the 3500s! It is a nice looking truck with some great features, but I do not "need" a new truck. Only have 68,000 miles on the '03 and will continue driving the ole '96 till it croaks (still is a great truck now). I also noticed on the specs it listed "power rack and pinion steering, independent front suspension" for a 4x4! What the hell? No more solid front axle?

To build to my specs, I would want a:

3500

single rear wheels

4x4 (solid front axle, with manual disconnect hubs)

4 door

long bed

Cummins

6 speed manual

manual shift transfer case

premium sound system (but without that touch screen crap and navigation)

nice cloth seats

electric windows/locks/remote

rubber floor mat

air conditioning

cruise control

exhaust brake

sliding rear window

I test drove a 3500 SRW crew cab long box... I was quite impressed... perhaps it is not too hard to impress coming from a 98 12v... but anyway, I would seriously consider one, but the dealer closest to me has 4k of dealer markup on top of MSRP... damn spendy truck. I like the fact they are finally offering a proper crew cab, great room in the rear... drop the price 10k below MSRP, and I am ready :)

I assure you the hd 25/3500s 4x4s have a straight front axle and a larger than last years recirculating ball steering gear.

I saw a 2010 at Shively Motors in Chambersburg PA. - had a six speed manual and 3. 42 gears. The only negative I could add is that I prefer the previous instrument cluster. Sticker was $48,900 on a short bed crew cab.

I hope you're not going to get rid of that RARE truck you have!

This is something I don't like, either. This may be one of those questions for ask the builders... or whatever.

I would LOVE to see a 3500 offered with a 6 speed manual, 4:10 rear axle, and a two speed axle at that. Some of us old farts know how to drive a stick, and can split shift a 2 speed rear axle. This would have me at the dealer, ready to deal.

I can remember the same conversations circulating when the 3 gen style replaced the 2 gens style. Plus all the disappointment in the thinner sheet metal and frame restrictions.

Personally, I still like my old 2 gen styling and the old mechanical 5. 9 12v.

Main point is we will eventually get over the styling changes as time goes on. However, getting over the reduced mpgs from the 5. 9 to the 6. 7 won't happen.

AMEN! - in SPADES! ;):-laf

I am still in love with the classic looks and overall proportions of my '02 - and the excellent empty and towing MPG is just MORE frosting on the cake! Oo.
