My D250 truck has just under 100 K and is back on the road after after being totalled from a hit to the left front. I had the frame straightened and replaced the entire front end, ball joints, tie rods, steering box, cross link and all the bushings. It has been aligned almost within specs, the castor is still a little off. It drives nice and goes straight without pulling but it seems a little sloppy. I don't remember if it was like this before the wreck but with all the new parts it is not noticably tighter that is for sure. So I wonder about the shaft, if I hold the steering box input and rotate the steering wheel there is only a total of 1/2" steering wheel play, 1/4" either way. That doesn't seem like too much but reading here everyone's opinions about the OEM shaft maybe it is. The other thing is the shaft seems to rattle when you go over bumps. Will the Borgonson fix these things. My truck is a work in progress so as money becomes available I could see doing it if need be.

That doesn't seem bad at all... but the borgesson is a fine unit and a worthwhile upgrade for any first gen truck! I did it, and I won't go back!

Slack in steering

Did you replace the parts in the 'pot joint' at the input to the steering box. Problems with those parts are what the Borgesen shaft addresses.

Don't know about the 100k being enough to get loose but the parts are very inexpensive. They will not however eliminate the problem from re-occuring. Look specificly at that joint and decide if that is the source of your problem.

Rebuilding from a total and having sloppyness, you may still have a problem with settings. The Borgesen is expensive but top quality. Viewed from a saftey standpoint, it is in-expensive.

What? A Dodge truck having sloppy steering? Nah. No way. Sounds to me with the minimal amount of play I'd leave it alone. Spend the $200 somewhere else. Possibly buy the rag joint or coupler rebuild kit from Dodge, I've heard its cheap. Being that

you have a D model and are not running huge 4WD tires I don't believe you will wear out a rebuilt rag joint in 4500 miles as some advertise and probly wont need the borgeson. Yeah I have one, it has no play, almost too stiff, but after running it for about a year, I don't feel its worth the big investment, since we're always upgrading our truck the big money could be spent more wisely somewhere else IMO. bILL
