Bought a 88 D150 4x4, need trans advise

Look closely at the photo Dodge published in a Jeep Ad. I noticed it in the magazine I was reading but saw it again here. The Vic and E-Series ambulance have Dodge grilles morphed into them. Didn't do it to the Sutphen fire engine however!

Jeep Rebate Ad

The Crown Vic actually doesn't look too bad. But they went overboard on the van headlights. I don't understand either... our city has 4 Intrepid police package cars and our Sheriff Dept has 3 plus a Durango unit. They could have used a Dodge Van graphed onto the ambulance body.

According to the ad... they've "put someone else up on a pedestal"... . FORD!!

Those must be the most worthless turd police cars in the history of man. I hate front wheel drive dodge stuff. What a bunch of crap. :{

They are in the dealership all the time in the summer. They overheat. The Sheriffs department lost one when chasing a meth lab criminal. The brakes caught fire and the cop behind him radioed up and said "YOUR CARS ON FIRE!!" He bailed out just before it became fully involved. He lost all the weapons in the trunk, laptop, etc. No time to get it all out. They were way out in the boonies too... so it was a smouldering hunk of metal by the time the fire dept got there.

The 02 Durango seems to do real well for what it is.

Maybe Dodge read my post. I noticed in the most recent issue of Fire Chief magazine that they have revised the Jeep ad. It looks the same... however the cop car is now a Dodge Magnum police car, the ambulance is a Dodge Sprinter van and the fire engine is by American LaFrance. Lafrance, a builder from way back when, was brought back to life a few years back by Freightliner (owned by Diamler Chrysler). So they are all good now. I've actually seen a Sprinter ambulance once... and of course tons of LaFrance trucks... . but never a Magnum police car. Would be a good choice with the Hemi however. Plenty of room for ammunition, bad guys, etc.

The real deal Crown Vics will overheat at an idle with the A/C blasting in the summer...

I helped edit a training video for the MA State Police way back when. Their K9 units keep the cruisers running with the A/C set to meat locker in order to cool off the pooches. I noticed in the raw footage that a whole row of Crown Vics were idling with the hood propped open a bit. They found that popping the hood open a little helped to dissapate some of the heat and slow down the overheating process a bit.

You'd think that F*rd would have discovered that problem in their environmental testing... :-laf
