WHATS INSIDE AND HOWS IT ALL WORK. THE VACUUM PUMP DRIVES OFF THE TIMING GEARS INSIDE THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. WHEN YOU REMOVE THE VACUUM PUMP IT WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH THE TIMING GEARS OR INJECTION PUMP TIMING AND CAN GO BACK INTO PLACE WITH THE DRIVE GEAR IN ANY POSITION. THE VACUUM PUMP COUPLES UP WITH A DRIVE GEAR SIMILAR TO THE VACUUM PUMP COUPLER GEAR IN A DISC AND DRIVES THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE POWERSTEERING PUMP DRIVES THE HYROBOOST BRAKE UNIT ON LATER MODELS USING HYDRAULIC PRESSURE AND ALSO THE STEERING GEAR BOX. ON EARLIER MODELS,THE BRAKE BOOSTER IS VACUUM OPERATED AND DEPENDS ON VACUUM FROM THE VACUUM PUMP TO SUPPLY THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM. THE VACUUM ALSO OPERATES THE DASH VENTS ACTUATOR MOTOR THAT CHANGES THE VENTS FROM DEFROST TO FLOOR. THE VACUUM ALSO OPERATES SOME OF THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM AND 4X4 INTERLOCK ON THE FRONT AXLE. A SMALL LEAK IN ANY OF THE VACUUM SUPPLY HOSES WILL LEAVE THE VACUUM SYSTEM INOPERATIVE. THE SEAL MOST COMMON TO LEAK ENGINE OIL AND BLOW OIL BACK UNDER THE TRUCK IS FOUND WHERE THE POWER STEERING PUMP ENTERS THE VACUUM PUMP. THE REPAIR KIT OFFERED IS TO REPAIR THAT OIL LEAK AND USES A NEW DESIGN DUAL LIP SEAL THAT WORKS GREAT AND IS EASY TO INSTALL ONCE THE PUMP IS OUT OF THE TRUCK.
