_ Explain to me the difference between a semi floating axel, and a full floating axel.

:-laf Good one. I might use that some day. Of course, if he fires right back with "I'll answer that if you can spell "axle" for me", you're in trouble! [strictly in jest, I mean no insult... just a little good-natured needling!]

It's not just Dodge guys. I had a technician at the local Cummins service center tell me all about the rear gear train on my engine while he had the hood open and was looking at the engine itself. I don't get service there anymore.

My dad bought a new 300 last night and the sales manager told him that the cummins will be replaced with a Mercedes product in 07 or 08. Any truth to this?

I have a friend that owns a dealership, and he also says that dodge will be powered by a Mercedes. He has seen one in a test truck. I herd they have been testing for a while. Rummor is that "IT WILL END THE DIESEL WARS" with somewhere around 500+ hps and 700+ ft-lbs. stock. I also herd that Ford was haveing Cummins design a Cummins V-8 for the Ford 07-08 trucks. I'm not trying to look like an idiot, this is just what I have herd. (Not from a salesman)

Gee, I thought everybody knew that Wal-Mart owns Cummins and the engines are made in Hunan province in China in a city named Usa. They ship them to Saltillo, Mexico for use in our trucks. But the origin plate does not have room for 5 characters MADE IN (China), so they just use the city name. Now keep this hush, because the greeter at the local Wal-Mart told me and they might get fired if they find out. ;)

I hope the new "cummincedes" is gonna be a good one!! Man those salesman will say anything to sell a vehicle!! Man i hope to see the CUMMINS stay with DODGE for a long time!!!

Today, I test drove a mega and the salemen tried to give me a line but I stopped him before he made a fool of himself. I was honest with him and told him that cummins was not a MB company. He did know what the hptq # were though. He was a nice guy after because I took approx. 20 mile ride in it and he didn't say a thing.

Hasn't the new 6. 7 Cummins already been seen in test trucks? There was just a post on this a couple of days ago. I guess it won't be settled until a unit is actually sold.

i'm no expert on diesels but if a V-8 diesel is so much better than the inline six then why don't the 18 wheelers have V-8's in them. Every body always uses my inline six as an argument start up between the ford and duramax and i throw that in thier face and then they go quiet about that and then preach to me about other reasons why ford or chevys are better. Get this, a pro duramx guy (my wifes uncle) tells me i should never chip my truck because it will cause too many problems with my motor but it is totally ok to a duramax and whatever other mod's you want to do to that motor. I hate arguing with a guy who thinks he knows so much about the mighty cummins. Just goes to show how stubern some not all chevy guys are. Anywho thats just what i have to say.

So let me get this straight

Ford owns Mercedes, which owns Dodge, and Ford owns Cummins, that means I'm driving a ... ... ..... FORD :eek: :{

:-laf Fireman

Ford does not own Mercedes. Daimler owns Mercedes. And Daimler does not own Chrysler. They are partner coporations, hence the name Daimler-Chrysler. The problem is that the guys from Daimler are in the drivers seat, and Chrysler let it happen. Chrysler corp. needs to grab hold of its you know whats and take back control of its self.

I think actually that Mercedes is the parent company and that the Chrysler portin of the name is really only for marketing at this point. Meaning, Daimler has the say in all the business decisions, inc CEOs, VP, etc.

I am sure someone will correct me quickly if this is inaccurate.

 Well all I know is I love my Cummins. When

it wears out (if I am still alive) I will buy another one. If it is in a Dodge then fine. If it is in anything else I will buy it. If it is no longer available in a

new truck then I will shop for a good used Dodge Cummins. Since I only have 190,000 plus miles on mine and am 64 years old I probably dont have to worry about it since I wont live long enough to wear mine out. :D

Dave Gardner.

MMurray,

I think you can call the Daimler/Chrysler thing anything you want but in my opinion the Germans are driving the wagon. It's sad that our own companies can't seem to get it together.

David Gardner,

I think I read somewhere that barley pop in moderate quantities allow you to live to around 105! Results may vary.

Maybe the guy was right, but a little confused. Obviously this does happen as lots of info floats around about these trucks. Like an earlier post where the salesman said the trucks have a Mercedes auto, Right truck but thats the 6 speed g56. Maybe Dodge is going to put in a Mercedes diesel, imagine a diesel in the fuel hog Durango. Cummins probably wouldnt want to delve into a light duty motor for that truck, even the 4bt would squash the durango.

I don't know about you guys but my CTD has plenty of power. I could not ask for more. I would like to see a bullet proof auto and a 4500-5500 type truck.

I know . That is what I said in my second post. Daimler is in the drivers seat, and it needs to change.

IMO, if Daimler hadn't taken charge there wouldn't be a Chrysler right now. . If Ford and GM are on some form of life support, then I doubt Chrysler would still be around as the 3rd place finisher. . I'm no expert on Chrysler by any means, but before Daimler got involved Chryler products were pretty much junk relatively speaking. Not that they are making high quality products now either, but they have come a long way.
