Has anyone ever tried a dodgezilla? I am in the market for a new turbo and Rip told me about the dodgezilla. He though it would be a good addition to a first gen. I called Citydiesel today and talked to them about it for a little while and it sounds good to me. They balance everything separately then assemble the shaft and compressor wheel and balance it again. Decent price too $715 with a non gated 14cm housing.

Thanks

David

I have been running the dz for 3 yrs plus. nice with mach 4's on a second gen

1100 max with smarty and mach 4's at 405 hp :)

I think Bob Wagner's point was that it keeps EGTs in check quite well. Though his programming could have some effect on it, ours (pumps) can be adjusted to get similar results.

I have been running a DZ for about a year. The DZ w/a 12cm housing has been able to keep my egt's pretty much in check w/the 370's. Running around empty I really have no egt issues. Now w/a load and a 6% grade I have to watch the egt's very very closely.

The stock turbo handled the 300's I was running pretty well. When I switched to the 370's the stock turbo was no match. Just too much heat. So I had the DZ installed and I have been happy so far. The 370's and DZ combo I gained 77 hp over the 300's and the stock turbo.

Seems to be a good midrange performance upgrade without having to spend the big bucks.

Just remember they are a hybrid 40 wheel on a 35 housing so they are sensitive to over speed. If you don't go crazy on fueling and rpms and show a little restraint it should be a decent turbo.

I would go with the 12cm WG housing though. I think your spooling will be better and unless you are going to tow really heavy all the time the EGT's should be controllable.

My . 02 :)

I have the same specs (60mm 6blade wheel, 12cm housing, but it wasnt built by City Diesel, so I cant call it a Dodgezilla). Even towing a small tractor (50-60hp- 2640 JD), EGTs never topped 1200 up some steep eastern Ozark hills.

I run one with a 14cm non-wastegated housing.

Bought from city diesel 3 years and 100K + miles.

Mach 2's, EZ and Dodgezilla combo has worked good for me.

I'm wondering how this turbo will work with the lucas POD injectors. I'm enjoying "HAZING" intersections, and tailgaters its just that i would like to be using more of the fuel that's going out the pipe.

If this is a midrange upgrade what other higher hp upgrade turbo would be better?

S300 frame 62mm compressor w/ either a 65mm turbine or 71mm turbine.

I've got a sps62 from industrial (62mm compressor, 71mm turbine, . 80 exhaust housing) it spools every bit as good as my dodgezilla 12cm gated turbo, cools way better and supports a lot more boost.

seems like a lot of money for a hybrid with a 14 non gated housing. If it had the wastegated 14 on it it would be alot better. Just turn your stocker into a hybrid or like forrest says bite the bulit for a s300 there awsome.

well, I've got a 98 12v and a 97 12v... I ran the 'zilla on the 98 before I installed the sps62. I've currently got the 'zilla on the 97.

free reving the 98 I get 3psi out of the sps62. that's minimal to zero smoke BTW.

on the 97 with the dodgezilla I can free rev it to the moon, and the needle won't budge

watching the needle swing on the 97 is like waiting for Santy Clause... but on the 98 once there's about 15psi on the gauge, it tags 50psi almost instantly. the 97 it just kinda gently sweeps :(

can't wait to get the s300 based 66mm on the 97!

my bad forrest... . i forgot this post was in the 2nd gen forum

lol

heck yea - if i had a inline pump i would be using 62/71-14 as the starting point

when you gonna try something around a 66/75 combo on one of them?

it's not, this is the 1st gen forum :p

my point is that the sps62 will make 3psi of boost smoke-free, just reving the engine. a 1st gen and a 2nd gen 12v don't really differ that much beyond the fueling. just saying that the 62 is ready to spool!!!

and comparing the spoolup of it vs. the dodgezilla on my 98? night and day and WELL worth the price difference IMO.

I ran a 66/75 on my last 98 for about a week... didn't like it... it was fun for hot rodding around, but not as nice as the 62/71, so I sold it and kept the 62.

now, my 97 is just a little toy that I picked up super cheap. it's getting a 66/71 :D
