Does anyone do pump timing around ny/nj/ct

I'm looking for someone to do pump timing (bumped up) and possibly valve adjustments. I'm currently unemployed so I have time to get this done. And of course I pay cash. I just have no idea how much something like this goes for.

First, there is no ignition timing on a diesel- it's pump timing or injection timing ;) Just giving you sass.

As for reaosnable prices, that is in the eye of the beholder. I think any more than $50 for a valve adjustment is outrageous; some shops charge for 2-4 hrs labor. Same for timing. If either of these operations cant be performed in under 2hrs each (assuming time to find true TDC; if that has been established, figure an hour each), find a competent mechanic.

Me too. :{ Got caught in a corporate "downsizing".

But I don't have the equipment to do the timing properly.

I DO have the tools to do valve adjustments.

Since this is started. I have a timing light and a dwell meter I use on the roadrunner if it helps, sparkplug gappers also:-laf .

OMG... . my truck is for sale in the classifieds

guess I'm lucky I didn't say "ignition pump", NASA we have a problem.

Jay, I'll try coordinate something, what days are good for you?

Coffee Night?????

Shot, Feel like comming on up to Derby? We can do the valves no sweat, I might to able to get a timming indicator for a VW VE, I heard that they work on a Ram VE. Who knows and has the procedure??

Jleonard, I Heard that my Uncle Igor is hiring :) Moose

When is a good friday night?

I've had the truck more then 22,000 miles and who knows when the last valve adjustment was done. A couple of years ago the dodge dealer said it sounded fine and it still does. I also know people in the first gen forum have gone many more 10k's of miles w/o doing adjustments. I just feel being on the safe side. I've always driven mopar so I never had to adjust valves and the last time I watched somebody adjust valves was in the mid 70's when I watched my grandfather adjust them on his 72 Impala out in the Bronx.

So just tell me what I need to bring. I already have valve cover gaskets.

You Know about our new site?? http://www.newenglandturbodieselpower.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=41

I am not sure when We can do this, But I am game for it. . MooseOo.

I can bring everything needed for adjusting the valves.

I'll look up the timing proceedure. We can practice on Shot's truck, then work on mine after we've made all our mistakes:-laf

I've owned my truck for 100K miles... never adjusted the valves.

I know, I must be off my rocker!:-laf :-laf

I guess I'm just not a well adjusted person. :-laf :-laf

Let's not dwell on the subject much longer :-laf :-laf

Are we working on comedy night?

Ok Moose 00 since I ain't makin' it as a comedian, I'll send a resume to your Russian uncle.

EDIT: Shot if you do make it for a friday coffee night, shoot up early and we can work on your truck in the daylight. Right now my schedule is clear every day.

My truck didn't have the valves adjusted from about 20k until 190k. They weren't far off either, couple of them were 1 or 2 thousands. :p Love my diesel! :-laf

I need to do my timing too. I can help with the valves since I've done mine before.

Never messed with the timing though.

I've called shops to get an idea on $$$ on timing. $150 seems to be about minimum.

I havent worked since 04.....
