2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Does my 2nd Gen Have a Power Steering Cooler?

I've been searching all over this forum and the internet trying to figure out whether my truck has a power steering cooler or not. Can't even find a drawing in the service manual. I've traced lines around and don't find one, but I get lost when the lines go into the hydraulic booster. Does anyone know if the 2001 trucks had a power steering cooler? Does anyone have a picture of where they are located? I bought the truck new and have not added one, so it would have to be an OEM installation.

No they do not come from the factory with one. The odd thing is they did in some gas applications. I used one from a gasser (dodge truck) and haven't done any repairs to my steerings hydraulic system in the 94 with many,many miles.

The 3rd gens do come with a cooler

The power steering fluid also operates the Brake Booster, so it takes a long path, doubt a cooler is needed. never had a heat issue with that

You may want to ck your fluid temps after a bit of 4 wheelin in the sand or rocks ... ... ... . you may be surprised at the temps.

The 3rd gens come from the factory with a cooler and the factory never spends money need lessly

Had problems with my 2001 for years -short life of powersteering fluid-I added a power steering fluid cooler from Summit Racing--took about an hour--for the past 2 years and 40000 miles have not had any burnt powersteering fluid and the truck steers better.

PS Fluid Cooler...

I went overkill and installed a factory gasser cooler in the factory location and spliced in another one on the return line from the brake booster. Keeping the fluid temps down will help the booster longevity according to the guys rebuilding those things.

What dohcrt said above. At my 3rd hydroboost unit I installed a frame rail cooler on the steering gear return so at least some of the fluid volume is cooling. Curious the earlier trucks (1996?) did have frame rail coolers... Can't hurt!

Not trying to steal the thread but has anybody ever installed a fuel cooler. I know the duramax uses one and I believe it is thermostatically controlled. I was wondering if it's compatable on our trucks.
