Door Hinges

Has anyone found a source for door hinges and the latch studs that stick out of the door frame? Well, besides the dealer, that is?



Dealer parts prices on some items are beyond my ability to pay... sheesh

Hinge pins and bushing you can get at NAPA. That was the first thing I had to replace on my truck. The drivers door dropped 1. 5" when you opened it. If you haven't let it get to bad. These will work pretty good. I have over 4 years on mine.

The Hinge pins and bushings are available from mopar at pretty reasonable prices. If not, check some old mopar websites, because our door hinges are the same as 1968-1970 B-body Dodges and Plymouths!!! Murfman

The local parts house found both pins and bushings (they are brass oillite style bushings) for the doors for real cheap.



They come in the red "HELP!" packages, and are a snap to change. You can find this brand of minor parts at many, many different sources.



They work well, too.

whenever I have done them before I have pulled the door off, do yoy have to pull the door off or can it be done with the doorin place(open) I only ask as I would rather not disconnect all the wirng for windows, locks, and speakers..... I really would have loved to find my truck with manual everything, and rubber flooring, but I got tired of looking... .

I did my doors a while back and I have never taken the doors off of a Dodge truck to change out the pins and bushing. The top pin is the hardest to get out past the door but with a little force it will come out. Do one hinge at a time and you will not have to take the door off. I did notice that my 92 had bushing with some sort of metal gasket looking material that was rap around the brass bushing that came from the factory. The Help bushing did not have that and the bushing will fit loose in the top hinge. I went to the local Dodge Dealer and the listing for the pins and bushing only went up to like if I remember right 1990 models and show'd no listing for the 92 and 93. I ask him why and he said Dodge wanted you to buy a whole new hinge. I was able to reuse some of the factory bushing and replace all the pins and some of the bushing with the Help brand. If I remember right the top hinge was the one that the Help bushing would not fit in tight. The Help bushing fit tight in the bottom hinge.

I have only done it on GM trucks, my last Dodge was a 1939... thanks for the info, I have also had problems with the bushings fitting loose.....

How strange! There must be variances in the hinges.



The HELP bushings fit tight in all places, top and bottom on my truck. The original plastic bushings had a thin steel or aluminum overwrap on them that I had to remove with a screwdriver and hammer. But the new bushings fit very snugly and my door is now very solid again.

Mine wasn't plastic but a thiner metal than the brass ones but they had the rap. I wonder if a difference between Canada and Mexico Trucks?????

I did my drivers door yesterday with the Help pins and bushings. The bushings fit slightly loose in the hinge so I used some JB weld when I installed them. Other than that the pins fit fine.



the stock bushings on mine were a split metal bushing with a wire reinforced phenolic insert.



I had to pull the door to get the old bushings out.



Bad news it the door hinge spring is almost cut through... ... .

Just did both doors, used help packages. I unbolted the top hinge from the door cause I didnt think the pin would come out? Used a gearwrench, easy no pounding.



Had to pull doors, I dont know how you would change pins and bushings if you didnt pull the doors. I had to drive remaining pieces of the org. bushings out. If maybe you had a friend that held the door, but he would get tired. Used a little axle grease to hold the bushing on there so I could slid the doors back over them. Wandering if the people with alittle slop put the bushings in wrong? could you put the hat side up on the lowest lower bushing and leave a slight up and down movement?



Mexico truck no slop at all, did show a little wear on the top drivers hinge.

BTW Napa had the pins but did not stock or list part numbers for the bushings.

These posts about door hinges are interesting because my 92 does not have bushings. The only replacement part I have found is to buy the entire hinge from Chrysler. You could drill out the original and bush it which is what I plan to do next time.

Use a small floor jack and a board and a old rag and put it under the door. Take the bolts out of the top hinge on the door only,leave the hinge bolted to the truck and push the door as far away as you can from the hinge and beat the pin out . It (the pin) will barely pass by the door in fact it might even scrap the door a little. I have done quite a few this way and I have never taken the doors off. My 92 was made in Mexico and it had those bushing that jbolt was talking about. I used a screwdriver to get the old bushing out.

I stand corrected. The top hinge does have bushings,the bottom hinge does not. I have noticed on my truck that it is the bottom hinge that wears the most.

The bushing SHOULD be on both top and bottom hinges. The bushing is shaped like a "Top Hat" The brim of the hat acts as the spacer/bearing between the hinge halves.

My truck must be an oddball. I have the old bottom hinge that I replaced awhile back right in front of me and there are no bushings of any kind nor is there room for any bushing. I went out and re-inspected the new bottom hinges from Chrysler and they do not have bushings. Don't know what else to say!

You probably could drill out the holes on the old bottom hinge and put the bushing in them . Sounds like the hinges without the bushing is another cost saving thing that Dodge came up with so you would have to buy another hinge.
