Door Latch.. Help Please!

I'm having problems with my 93's door latches.



The door will unlatch from the inside. But will not from the out side.

I have oiled it. It seems to work if we push the latch mechanism back then push the door latch on the outside in. But it will not work when we lock the door then unlock with the key and try to open it. The latch will not release.



Has anyone else had any problems with this?

There seems to be a place to attach a spring to the latch on the inside. Is a spring supposed to go there? Or are there just holes in the bracket?

There is a plastic "grill" about 2" X 4" on the door that is that can be removed for acess to the locking and latch parts. Open the door and look on the door itself - on the side of the door between the outer and inner door. That will let you see how everything is functioning when you work the lock. This should help narrow down the problem area.

The lock mechanism is dirty/worn and the release is just not dropping out of the way correctly.



Pull the latch out and you can see how it works then you can soak it and try to get everything working correctly. If it still intemits then its time for a new latch from somewhere.

Philip had trouble with his at SOP one year. He said the oil/ grease or what ever the lube was got stiff and made it stick. He sprayed it with brake cleaner and it freed right up. He relubed it later on with a light oil of some sort.

This sounds like a problem I have intermittently with both of my 93's. Worse in the winter time. When I try to unlock a door and it won't raise the inside plunger far enough to unlock the door, I can usually rotate the key back vertical, pop the outside pushbutton which if it rebounds out further, will then let the next key rotation push the inside plunger high enough to unlock.



When I am able to unlock the door or sometimes am forced to unlock the other door first, I open the little plastic access flap in the door edge and soak everything down with Zep 45 lube. So far I have never been forced to actually find out what part is actually causing the problem.

Well I put WD-40 on it. . It seems to help. But it still does not want to open right away. I will try taking break cleaner to it then re grease it. I also notice that it doesn't like to be locked from the inside. If I lock it from the outside with the key it seems to work better. Or as best as it can. It might be the weather. It has been really cold here lately. I will pay more attention to warm weather. I looked into getting a whole new thing. But it was just a little more than I wanted to spend! Thanks for the help.
