The wheel fell off.

Front passengers side.

All 8 studs snapped off.

Not sure of the cause.

Truck is fine.

Need new rotor, studs, nuts, and rim.

Not sure where to find a stock 93 aluminum rim.

Just needed to rant a little... .

dont feel too bad i also lost a front wheel though it was the drivers side, i had my '92 for about 8 months and had just got the plow all set up on her, i was out for one night plowing buddies driveways for the hell of it, well after the long night it snowed again and i ended up going out to do a couple more after i finished the last one i was going through my buddies sub and started hearing this obnoxious noise like nothing i've ever heard so w/o even thinking i pushed her from 4hi to 4lo and goosed it, next thing i realized i was sittin alot lower on the drivers side, doh, looked out the window and the studs all sheared but the rim was still sitting on the hub and in the wheel well, long story short i unlocked that hub took a jack and raised up that side put a 4x4 on a plastic $10 snow sled under the rotor, and drove it the half mile back to my buddies house very very slowly, wish i woulda had a video

My Father-in-law was helping us move to Wyo from Al, when he lost a rear wheel on his 93 CTD. Sturgis, SD at 3am going 65 on the interstate, pulling a fully loaded 3/4 ton chevy van on a trailer. That was a wild ride. The threads pulled out of the lugnuts. Wound up putting the diesel on the trailer and pulling it in with the other truck. Burned the transmission in the loaded van trying to pull the other trailer with my loaded Warlock over the hills. Did I mention it rained on us while we were trying to switch everything around to limp it in?

A clear cut case of abuse. High speed and overload!

Wait! You said the passengers side? I told you to stay away from the fat chicks! Wait til your GF finds out!

Just funnin with ya! Hope you get 'er fixed Matt. :D

Well, the studs were either under torqued or over torqued!

That should about cover the possibilities.

Stud size research

Now I have to get serious. I have noticed that stud size is diff on diff trucks and is diff front axle to rear on mine. What sizes have been in use on diff years and models. Mine is 1/2 and 9/16, do any of our trucks later years use 5/8ths ? I know there is such a thing as metal fatigue so I want to change all mine just as well go as beefy as my stock 17 inch rims will allow...

RC, I know what you mean. The PO of my truck... I'm not sure what he was thinking, but I just remember how much Goodyear complained when they were putting new tires on my truck about the fact that there were 3 different size wrenches they needed and 2 different thread sizes.

These were all new studs I put on last summer. I have no way of proving anything, but I have good reason for a certain hunch I have about what the cause was... . lets just say I've made a few enemies in my time.

The front wheels I replaced the studs and nuts on last summer, thus, they were all the same size. The "weird" part is that where it happened, I only found 3 lug nuts laying in the road. Where were the other 5?

BBEEEEZZZZDDIINNNGGGSSPPUUURRRLLLDDDOOOINNNGGG. Duck!:-laf

Sorry you had that happen. It seems that the engine will certainly outlast the rest of our trucks. Looking back, I should have sold mine to the Insurance Company for hail damage:{. It has become a major liability, but it is still cheaper than replaceing it. GregH

I guess that's the reason I have stock wheels with the standard little chrome hubcaps... . when the first lug nut falls off I suppose I'd hear it rattling around in there...

Of course "dropping a nut" has different meanings to different folks... :-laf:-laf
