Title says it all. Is there an adjustment or maintenance to it? If I work it back and forth a few times, sometimes it will suck up, but usually it just bunches up. Happened all of a sudden. Worked great going to work this am, went to lunch and no retracto.

Thanks...
Steve

Check first that the belt is not folded in half inside the retracting mechanism. mine did the same thing at 35k miles. As a result the belt was getting snagged in the door when closing and sometimes would not end up snug against the driver. I went to a local dealer here in So Cal and they claimed that the truck was out of warranty so it was not their problem. I was surprised as this is reallly more of a life/safety issue than some random complaint. When this happened on my VW bus I simply replaced the belt & retracting sping assembly as a unit. Done in about five minutes. Good luck.

My 2003 has had this exact problem for several years now. it started on the drivers side first as the belt obviously gets used more, about a year ago the drivers side started.

Each time you take your belt off you have to rack it back and forth half a dozen times to get it to retract all the way. If you don't you end up closing the door on the dangling belt.

There are no wrinkles or rolls in the belts, its plain old crappy retractor mechanisums. Mine started acting up well after the warrenty expired.

Now that Dodge is in serious financial difficulties your not going to get squat out of them, safety issue or not.

Glad it's not only mine!:) The driver's side on my 04. 5 has the same problem... been that way for the last 30,000 miles or so. Have to pull it several times for it to retract properly. Guess the only option is to replace it with the same poor quality retracting device... ugh

Mine has never really pulled strong enough to suck the belt in without some help. Dealer has replaced the little rivet that keeps the buckle from falling to the floor a couple times. (of course it's broken again because of the belt getting shut in the door a few times)

Driver side belt is failing to retract on my 06 at 33k. :(

I dont want the dealer touching it because they will break 2 other things repairing this.

Will price a new one this summer and do it myself

It's funny, my wife's Honda Civic has a no-retracto driver side belt, but my truck still works fine.

I think the best thing to do would be remove the interior trim that covers the belt retract mechanism, then have a look at it. I suspect some of them just need a lube job.

I believe is a fed law for them to fix seat belts- retracting and all. I to a miso and honda back and after ordering, fixed them no charge. Both 8 yrs and older!

Not to rub it in guys, but mine started working again!! I got home last night and looked and there was a twist just above the plastic molding on the B pillar I had never seen before. My guess is that it was behind the molding all the time, and somehow worked its way out where I could see it. After I untwisted it, it seems to work great, just like new. Time will tell though.
