1500 Eco Diesel fog lights only (with Philips X-Treme 9006 bulbs):

And 3500 fog lights only, stock bulbs:

As you can clearly see, the 1500 isn't enough to drive down the highway with, the 3500 you could manage.

Here's a photo of Rigid SAE fogs installed in my 3500, I'm VERY impressed. These puppies work fantastic. Just went for a drive down a busy interstate and some two lane highway with them on the entire time. Not one person flashed their lights at me. When standing in front of the truck looking at them head on, the low beam headlights are much brighter shining in your eyes. The lens they put on the SAE fogs absolutely works! Next time I have the EcoDiesel on the lift, I'm going to see if I can replace the stock fog lights with these babies.

Our older tractors could be driven with the parking and fog lights on and it worked great in torrential downpours, blizzard like snow and pea soup thick fog. Our newer tractors have to have the headlights on and I think that is a step backwards.

Yes I remember having Perlux Fog Lamps on a Freightliner that I drove when I started driving Tractor Trailer Rigs. The truck was totaled on CA. State Route 152/156 Pacheco Pass between Hollister and Gilroy. I think the Perlux Fog Lamps are now part of the Grote Co. Read the article good read.

It's hard to tell if one will be an improvement over the other unless you are able to take a picture during a snow storm. The ones of your 3500 are obviously brighter, but they also appear to be aimed higher (it's hard to say if it is indeed too high). With fog lights, the higher and brighter they are, the less effective they are in those serious snow storms as they light up more snow flakes and reflect back. Heavy snow or thick fog are one of those scenarios where more (light) isn't always a good thing.

In heavy snow and thick fog, one has to kind of forego the ideal of lighting up well down the highway, it just ain't going to happen. I know at least for me....I'm only creeping along the highway anyway in those situations with the other folks on the road without fog lights typically giving up and lining up behind me "drafting" (so to speak) my less crappy lighting situation.

I haven't had a chance to try my fog changeover to the PIAA Extreme White Plus 9005 bulbs in fog or heavy snow yet, but like in Powder Extremes 3500 fog light pic, mine brighten up the road itself very much the same. I'm hoping that this low broadcast of light works. It sure makes a difference when used with the projectors for normal driving.

Has anyone determined if we can run fogs alone yet? Or are we stuck coupling with the projector/dim headlights?

Yes, you can. Obviously you'd want to run them with the park lights on so you can be seen from behind.

Or......did you mean legally? If so, I don't know....and actually don't care. I think it is highly unlikely that an LEO is going attempt to pull someone over those in circumstances (heavy, blinding snow). I'll take my chances.

LOL! What I meant was will the fogs come on with any other light group. The Crazy rules DOT in Canada has, I can't put the fogs on with my brights. Not sure if they come on alone, with DRL's or Dims.

Won't work with brights on mine either. Mine will work with the headlight switch in either the "Off" position or in the Park Light position (and of course, "Auto").

In my other vehicles which I installed fog lights, I used a relay that got it's signal voltage from the park light circuit. That way, I could turn them on or off (brights or dims) whenever I wanted as long as the park lights were on. I did it through the park lights so I would also get a warning chime if I left them on by mistake.
