the same 3500 I am talking about in my other post.

I was quite impressed. Throttle was so much more sensitive in his truck, barely required any to get that pig to MOVE:eek: :D

Clutch pedal throw was dramatically shorter than mine too. No I'm not going to give up my 12 Valve but after driving his I do have a question.

The gear shift is shorter on his truck, and the throw between shift's was a lot shorter.

I was just wondering what is different between his truck and mine? As far as the tranmission linkage or whatever it is.

And now for the way out on a limb question... ..... could it be installed on my truck? I mean technically it is the same transmission so why couldn't it be? This was just a far out idea in my mind, but after driving his truck I was like WHOA!

So if anyone could shed some light on these questions I'd be greatly appreciative.

If you both have the same transmission, they should shift the same. The only thing that could make a shorter throw would be the shift lever length as far as I know. If you wanted your throw shorter, shorten the lever. Don't know about the clutch. As far as the power difference, you 97 can easily be made to respond better. Govener spring kit, fuel plates, etc.

ok well i will reply, I just came from a first gen to my new '02. I think there are more similarities to your '97 and my first gen. Here are a couple things i noticed about the things that you mentioned. I have the 6 speed i don't know what your friend has but I have noticed the shifter throws are a lot shorter than on my first gen, there is a lot less distance i have to move the shifter. my trans shifts very easy I can put my thumb on the top where the shift pattern is and shift through all the gears. then next thing I have noticed like you said the throttle is very sinsitive, i think it is throttle by wire of something, i don't think there is an acutal linkage going to the injection pump, which has some disadvantages I have found. when in 4x4 going on a really rough road you seem to push or let up on the throttle cause you are bouncing so much and this only makes the bouncing worse. I think this could contribute to lower mileage on 24valves cause this even happens if the road is even a little bumpy. Oh by the way don't sell your '97 it is worth it's weight in gold, if you do ask the maximum possible price
