heated fuel

Hello All

Mark the plan is to heat the fuel tank using a Arctic Fox heat exchanger set to 80 degs in a transfer flow 56 gallon tank also a custom tank where the spare tire is hooked up to the transfer flow tank or a tank running down the other side of the frame rail moving the muffler hooking it up so there is only one fill neck

I wont be running a spare tire swicthing to 285/70-19. 5 tires (H rated 16 ply)for 35 inch tall tires running Alcoa wheels and look's like Yokohama Y303 tires have the wheels and adaptors just need the tires.

Heating pad for the filter is on order (thanks kbennett for the web site) email them have not herd back on making a custom heating pad .

also will have a 110 heater in the tank to keep the oil warm at night in the winter and gauges to montor the fuel with all of the mods this should be good to run dse blend fuel all the time thats my goal for next winter.

yes it is a lot of money to spend but I think fuel prices will hit 3. 50 to 4. 00 per gallon this year and only getting worse the days of cheeper fuel are gone!

with all the EPA rules and new diesel regs we are in full a bumpy ride

these are just my thoughts I have no way of knowing this will happen.

CJ:

According to the report from Univ. of Idaho several studies indicated that long term use of raw veg when blended more than 20% with diesel produced enough carbon buildup on injectors and rings to cause damage to the engine. Do you think the DSE additive will alter the chemical makeup of the oil enough to remove this danger?

Thanks BL

fuel study

Hello all

Blove

This could be a problem, I an not sure what going on in there.

did you read the study they did it is very good reading

for those of you that did not, read it

http://www.webs1.uidaho.edu/niatt/Research/UTC_projects/year5/klk328.htm

this was funded by UTC for year 2003 at a cost of 50,000

the relationship to other research projects

This project will be closely related to the NIATT FutureTruck project and other hybrid electric vehicle projects in that the FutureTruck uses a diesel Auxiliary Power Unit to recharge the batteries. A future goal would be to use biofuels instead of diesel.

the UTC is

http://utc.dot.gov/

ran by

http://www.dot.gov/

so we have the goverment involved

the NIATT FutureTruck project

http://www.webs1.uidaho.edu/niatt/research/UTC_projects/year3/FutureTruck2001.htm

just look at where some of the money is from?

not saying there is any wrong doing here but when you have these people involved ????????????????????????????????????????????????????

REALY I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON INSIDE MY ENGINE

need to run this longer and at least 95% mix before I will feel that pulling the injectors will tell us anything I do know that the engine oil is clean/the tailpipe is clean and that it runs down the road just fine it will not smoke at all running this blend from 25% to 100% I would think that if the rings/pistons /intake/ turbo was getting gumed up I would see some signs of this by now.

this is the first thing I have tryed not sure if this is the way to go. my next step is to make biodiesel everything I have learned here will be used in making bio diesel.

this is all done out of the fact that the oil companys are out of control and we,up till now have just let them do whatever to us.

WOW

sorry for the rant

I will keep posting

Hello all

I just set up a new oil pick up this should get me about 80 gallons (total from four places) a week to burn will be getting a storage tank at my house that will hold 300 gallons I have 50 gallons in the tank heating and 25 gallons ready to burn and 100 gallons needing to make biofuel out of.

also well be getting a new pump to transfur the oil and a tank for the truck for picking up used oil.

will post if something changes o4 truck is running great.

Went to Bozeman Mt (in the 05) this weekend and found a place to by biodiesel there.

the cost was 2. 659 per gallon for b5 #2 was running 2. 679 per gallon

the 05 runs ok on this the MPG is 20. 5 running down the road at 75 mph rpms were 2100

wish they had b20 /b50 / b100 but its too early for that.

Thanks CJ I needed that reminder about the oil companies. I believe you are right.

I have decided to go ahead with the DSE plan on a temporary basis and start working on the bio-diesel method as I am getting quite a bit of hydrogenated oil that I can't use in the DSE method. I have a 1997 2500, auto with 105k. I expect to have to change some filters at first, but from what I have received from this thread I am confident I will be alright. Thanks BL

fuel mixng

Hello

have been picking up as much oil as I can

I have 3 batches at this time 30 gallons done and waiting 30 gallons in the mixing tank and 50 gallons in the heating tank also have another 60 gallons in storage

I have found out that filtering the fuel up to 12 hrs makes the oil very clean and easer to pump so all the stuff I make will be filtered 12 + hr's this will make the fuel a little more in cost but not much more.

On another note I have some oil that I mixed up three months ago about a gallon just sitting it has some white looking growth of some sort will I just needed to play this weekend so I put a Tablespoon of MMO in it, went out this am and looked at the fuel and the white stuff was gone. and that the fuel is clear its still dark but its really clear. what does this stuff do / and why does it do this??

Ingredients from MSDS/Label

Chemical CAS No / Unique ID Percent

Stoddard solvent 008052-41-3 <30

Distillates, petroleum, solvent-refined heavy naphthenic 064741-96-4 <75

Distillates, petroleum, solvent-dewaxed heavy naphthenic 064742-63-8 <75

thanks for your time

dse fuel

Hello All

I did get my waste veg oil pump from dixon pump in Billings, Mt

Model 1101-p dc 1/3 hp 1 inch pumps up to 15gpm

This will be used for pumping wvo out of my 55 gallon drums at the cafes that give me there oil.

As soon as I get it up and running , will post some pic of it and give you my thoughts on it .

As for the truck it running just fine no problems the engine oil in the truck looks a little brown has 2950 miles on it allmost time for a change the tail pipe has no black soot in it. the only time that I see it smoke is if I let it idle in the am and then it smokes a little bit when the engine is not warmed up fully after its at 190 deg's no smoke at all.

road trip

Hello

We got back to town late last night.

The truck ran great MPG on the trip up to Yellowstone Park 14. 9

on the way back 17. 5 this is loaded with a Arcticfox 990 camper 3900 lbs and the truck 8000 lbs plus all the stuff you need to go ???? yes I am over 12,000 lbs the mileage up is better than last year buy 1. 5 mpg both ways we start out at 3800 feet and climb to 7770 feet in 240 miles the first 160 miles we go to 5200 feet then the rest 2570 feet in the last 80 miles

We had no problems with the truck or the fuel and got home with 1/4 of a tank we put on 533 miles also we stoped and put in 10 gallons of fuel to get us home think I could have made it home but I would hate to push it.

Just for anyone coming out this way #2 in montana is running 2. 859 to 3. 159 the closer you get to yellowstone park the higher it gets I never looked in the park but my guess it got to over 3. 20 per gallon.

road trip

CJ,

Sounds like you had a great trip, glad you made it safe.

I started buying the parts to make my fuel station should have it up and running in about two weeks. have about 20 gals. of oil and will be getting more over the next few weeks. will make my first batch at 10 gals. and try it out. How much per gal is it coasting you now? Does the cost per gal include the fuel station? I figure around 100 gallons to recover the cost. should run me around 300. 00 for fuel station. Well keep us posted

Regards
