Differential Oil Change Intervals.

Hello Vaughn

The ratios have changed a little, waiting on an test of the oil to make sure its ok then I will tell more info but the products are the same only the amounts have changed, the way I process the oil has changed.

CJ, what ratios are you using now for your kero, RUG, Power Service & DSE mix?

Hello to All

Will its been a few days there are a few new things to report.

The 03 chevy that tryed the fuel ran just fine with the blend fuel no problems reported. The only thing he said to me was the engine is loud now that it has reg diesel in it and he likes the smell of the blend fuel. He also asked me for a price on putting one of my units in a trailer so he can make fuel and run down the road he does a lot of traveling and would like to make his own fuel. :)

The person that helps me out getting oil ,found a person that has a lister engine and a expeller and they are trying to crush safflower seeds in to oil and seed cake, sent an email to them on and they called me the next am.

We are meeting with them of Sunday to help out with this project. The funny thing is that they are about 15 miles from my house so this is going to be easy to get to and service.

Its sound like they will be feeding the cake to there cows and using the oil for fuel if this is right then there on the right path.

I will post more on sunday after a get to talk to them and will try to get some pictures.

expeller/ lister / new truck on blend

Hello to All

Man is that LISTER a cool engine runs at 1000 rpms and you can feel the power.

The project is to get the engine up off the ground its down and its hard to get started that low.

Then we will start to plumb the boiler to make steam this will cook the safflower and then crush the seed, They bought an 10 hp Lister Clone Engine,Seed Expeller,Filter, Boiler and all the things need to make seed cake and oil.

I have a few pictures but, dont really want to post anything yet,we need to get some power and get a few things sorted out before we can get some really good pictures.

Seeing this engine run only makes me want one so I can make my own power and tell the power company I don't want them around any more. :-laf :D

Next weekend we plan to raise the engine up and get the boiler hooked up. then we will get the filter hooked up.

The trucks are running just fine and as of today there is one more dodge running blend fuel its a 2000 dodge the person bought it just so he could burn vegoil in it and he is,he got it a week ago and we just put in 20 gallons today. :)

Hello to everyone,

This is my first post and hopefully not my last in these forums. I have used DSE for almost three years now without any trouble what so ever. In my 96 I was able to run the blend 100% during the warm months and 50% in the winter.

Just over a month ago I sold the 96,bought a 04. 5 with 44,000 miles and in almost show room shape. I quickly found that the new truck doesn't like the blend at much over 70%.

Just after buying the new truck, I found the TDR and this forum. What a wealth of information I have been missing. With that I want to thank all who participate and freely share thier knowledge with the rest of us.

After reading most all of this thread, I realized how lucky I've been since I have used the basic fuel station that is shown in the DSE manual all this time without any problems. Now I shiver when I think about how little I filtered my fuel and what could have happened as a result.

So, with my new found information I am on a mission to design and build a new filtering station, something similar to what CJ has created. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for creating this thread and keeping it alive!

fuel

Hello Dale

Its nice to here from others that run the DSE Bend of fuel. the 04. 5 is a good truck . It does not like the fuel at 100 % but at 70 its still a good savings.

The problem is that Third event in the injection of the fuel. the makers of the SMARTY have turned it off but it makes the egt go up and the power goes down so they wont do it. I have asked them for it about 6 times, but it never gets done.

If you need advice on the filtering unit I am just a email away.

Good luck and have fun.

I have been running DSE in 3 dodge 12 valvers for over two years now. None of them have ever given me any problems. Just dilute the WVO a little more in winter with diesel or kerosene. Smoke is a lot less. I run about 30% mix in my CTD.

fass fuel pump filters

Hello to All

Here are some pictures of the fuel filters off my 2004 truck. The screen on the Water Filter is the first two pictures and the 10 micron filter is the next two pictures the filters have been on the truck for around 6000 miles this is about all I can get out of the water sep filter.

I could feel the filters starting to plug last week ,the power starts to drop off slowly the fuel pressure also was starting to drop.

This might scare off some people but this is what it looks like if you cut the filters apart.

wow, thats all I can say

Hello to All

I got a phone call today from a fellow greaser and we started talking about biodiesel and blending he is running around 70% biodiesel in his truck and with winter comming on he is thinking maybe thats a little high we talked some more and I found out he makes his own fuel and he was hoping I might have some tips on finding oil and getting it in the winter this will be his first winter running biodiesel. Will I have some oil that is not really what i want so I told him he could come over and get a sample of this stuff and see what its going to take to make it in to biodiesel.

He drives up in this truck and I thought I had guts using my fuel in a 1 year oil truck his is a 2007 chevy with 8000 miles on it only has had one tank of diesel the rest has been homebrew biodiesel 20 gallons of bio to 5 gallons of diesel. THE ONLY PROBLEM he has had with the truck is that they filled it up with diesel when he bought it and it pluged particulate filter must have put 500 ppm diesel in it.

veg oil as a fuel

Hello to All

Will its been a few days and I really have nothing new to report all the trucks are running fine only had to make a small adjustment to the fuel to keep it from pluging the fuel filters I added two more gallons of gasoline to the mix this should take me to 0 degs if not colder time will tell on this. 4 gallons of kero/jet A/D#1 and 4 gallons of gasoline plus the rest of the stuff.

This mix would be like adding Jet B To the veg oil

Diesel 3.49...

Well I just wanted to chime in on what you are doing cj, I have been running straight vegetable oil on a 2004. 5 that I converted myself for about a year and a half now. Its been working great. Recently I had been experimenting with making my own mix for my regular diesel tank. I have been using a 75%/25% SVO to RUG mix. Truck is running good, except when I, like others have found that anything over around 70-75% in the tank, truck does not run that good at startup.

I even played with that diesel secret energy. I am not seeing much of a use for the kero in the mix as it doesn't thin the oil much at all.

I had to smile the other day when I went by the gas station and saw that diesel had jumped from 3. 25 to 3. 49 in what seemed like overnight!

Won't have to be paying that again. I will try and take some pics soon so everyone can see.

cj I'm glad to be seeing this since lately I have not been reducing the percentage of DSE fuel in my '98 but instead have been increasing the amount of gasoline at each fillup. Basically each tank now is about 40% WVO mix, 15% gasoline and 45% diesel. I almost always plug in at night which helps a lot, otherwise it's pretty sluggish for the first couple of minutes. Having the fuel line heater helps a lot, so I'm going to be running a high percentage all winter. I'm going to have to with the high prices and the fact my driving has gone up a bunch the last two months. The cheapest station in town is 3. 59 right now.

One thing I purposely do is give the truck a good run every couple of days, and once warmed up I always do a few jackrabbit starts from the light when driving around town to help keep the combustion chambers clean.

This truck smokes very very little in the morning so I think my mix is doing OK. Then next tweak to my truck is to get rid of the 4-hole Bosch 300 injectors and put the set of 215s in I just got.

fuel

Hello to All

The trucks are all running great no problems to report.

Have been working on the oilseed expeller and we should be making oil this weekend if all goes right. Will post pictures as soon as I can.

I can allmost smell the oil !!!!!

To TDuckworth

DSE is a product that you add to vegoil along with kero/gas/powerservice to blend in to a fuel to run in your diesel engine. this is not biodiesel but you can call it bio fuel. it works in most diesel engines as far as I can tell. this whole post is about DSE and what I and a few others have found out about it.

You will find that some people say this stuff will not work but I have been running it for two years now and have had zero engine problems so far.

I have taken the DSE Product to a lab for testing and found out what it is no more guessing for me and a few others, by the way thank you.

Well cost of making DSE fuel is certainly going up (but still a lot more affordable than the $3. 79 pump prices around here). I got more kero today and best price was $4. 95 per gallon with your own container. It went up over a dollar since the last time I got some.

I've been running higher percentage DSE fuel but noticed a fair amount of blue smoke for the first two minutes this afternoon driving home from work. Not sure what's going on there, it was in the high 60s this afternoon so you can't blame it on being cold. Truck has never smoked like that before, barely smokes starting in the winter.

Cj, got my 1st batch of oil. I had to break down and buy 55gl of WVO (de-watered and filtered to 10 micron) from some "hippies" that are making bio-diesel for wholesale purposes. Seems like all the wvo in the PDX/'Couver area is spoken for. Now I've got to design a filter assembly; for now I'll probably just use one filter @ 1-2 micron along with the pump from Harbor. Have you or anybody thought about using HEET (or it's diesel counterpart) in the mix for added de-watering security? I thought I read about it in this post but couldn't find it. Thanks, Tom.
