After 3 months of slipping the transmission in over drive. The full upgrade DTT is finally installed. No more slipping. :D There is now a direct line between my right foot and the rear wheels in all gears. Thanks Stephen from DTT, Tim who installed it and to all the people who have previously posted their results with new transmissions and helped me make up my mind on which vendor to go with. I talked to them all and decided DTT was the way to go. The exhaust brake and EDM 1. 6s are in the mail. :D :D :D

Congrats! I know the feeling. My son and I just installed a DTT converter, billet servo, accumulator, band strut and lever and various other valve body goodies in his 2001. 5 truck. No more wildly slipping converter. Shifts are firm and sure and the converter is exactly as you put it--a direct line from the throttle to the tires. Thank you Mr. Kondolay!!! :D :D :D

I'm looking at getting one installed on my 99. Not sure if I should go with the input shaft though. Did you? Can you really feel the difference? Any more MPG?

You almost have to put the billet input in. The stock input in a transmission that shifts like it should is like a time bomb waiting to explode! When the bomb goes off the trans is JUNK. 4 to 5 g's down the drain. Save yourself the hassle and get the billet input at least.

I installed the billet input shaft because I am also installing an exhaust brake. In talking to all the transmission vendors they recommended the billet input shaft with the exhaust brake due to the higher shock loads placed on it. It wasn't mandatory for the horsepower I currently plan to make, but seems like cheap insurance against breakage and potential destruction of the rest of my transmission.

I didn't get the billet third gear. Stephen from DTT said the third gear upgrade was recommended above 450 or 500 horsepower (I don't remember) or when towing more than 10,000lbs. I had all the other upgrades installed and went with the 89% torque converter.

I haven't towed with it yet but it is amazing how much more powerful the truck feels now that the power I am making is going to the ground. The shifts are very firm but not objectionable. I won't be able to give a good estimate on actual MPG until I run a few tanks of fuel through it but so far no reduction in mileage with alot of :D :D :D :D :D .

This weekend I am installing the exhaust brake and the smart controller. Next week the Don M 1. 6's. :-laf

After a week and a half of driving I haven't noticed any increase in MPG. Still the same just a lot more :D :D . Last night I put in the mach 1. 6. WOW!!!!! the difference is huge. It is like a new truck. Don makes the power and DTT puts it to the ground.

Dtt trade offs?

I had my dtt transmission installed about 3 months ago. I agree with all the previous comments about the transmission holding up to the hp (med to heavy throttle driving conditions), but not many comments on the trade off that I percieve when going from stock to dtt.

My stock transmission (83k miles) was only slipping when I really got on it, but under normal city stop and go driving would shift as smooth as glass during light throttle driving.

My dtt shifts much harder especially when you get on the throttle lightly from a stop and have to stop quickly at the next light. My mechanical who did the install re-checked all the pressures when I complained about this and installed different shift springs (valve body). Shifting improved a bit.

I guess I'll have to live with what I consider a trade off between light throttle harsh shifting and a hd transmission that can hold up to my hp mods.

Not really complaining, but I still consider this a trade off.

I have noticed the trade off of having a performance transmission. My worn out transmission shifted very smoothly also. When I quickly accelerated the RPM's went up very rapidly without the corresponding forward motion. :( The overdrive clutch would slip in a roll on situation and it is flat here. :{ No way I could tow the Jeep to the mountains with the slipping transmission.

After installing the DTT the 1-2 shift was too late for my liking (2200 RPM) so we changed the spring and moved the shift down about 300 RPM. It is still a much harder shift than with the old transgo shift kit. It is my understanding that the firmer shifts are due to the higher line presure, which will, in the long run, save the torque converter and the transmission.

IMHO the trade offs are worth it just something to be aware of.
