If I was marketing a product nationwide, I sure as hell wouldn't be interested in building a nationwide network of certified installers so that another company could make money recommending the same guys. There is no way I would let them install my competitors product. You had better feel as strongly about the products as I do if I am going to let you be my representative to the potential customers in the area. If someone is set on my competitors product he can look elsewhere.

In my area there is a Ford, Chevy/GMC, and a Dodge dealership. The Dodge dealership has the best service, but I don't go knocking on their door if I want to buy a Ford.

Im stealing this quote from our good friend Peter of South Bend clutch. "Quality Service or Price Pick any two. " If you think that the aftermanket companies charge too much for their products, then take your truck to the good ol dodge dealership and ask for a price quote for a rebuild. then plan on doing it againa and again cause it wont hold up. Spend your money with DTT and be done with it. Do it once and do it correctly

DTT

I went for the DTT upgrades per my sig. I'm very pleased with the way it performs. I really don't know any thing about ATS and the differences with the products. I do know there aren't any short comeings with the DTT upgrade for my use. Could be that they are both great products and you just have to choose. Shi! lighten up and have fun. Life is to damn short to worry about the small stuff. Love this big truck and life in general!!!!!!

:D :D :D

I went with ATS in April of last year. Since then I've put about 15,000 miles on my truck, almost all city driving. It is everything I was promised and a lot more. For instance, the TripleLok apparently IS heaviest duty Torque Converter out there. I researched them! I called everybody, e-mailed everybody. And that's not all ATS does... they heat-treat, harden, re-engineer, or cyrogenically treat, many, many, many parts in the trans to handle high H. P. and Torque. They take all the weak links, they take all the marginally engineered parts which the Dodge bean-counters made the engineers squeak by on, and beef 'em up to handle a high-H. P. Cummins.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Here is a thread of my experience at ATS in Denver.

You'll wish you hadn't when you add the power and get to buyin' clutches.

The auto can be built to take s much abuse as you can give it and still be very driveable.

I'm not swapping out my 6spd for the fun of it.

FWIW,

Really? Let me test one! Please! :DKind of a bold statement, considering a 600hp truck fried his auto doing that drag racing thing, hate to see what sledpulling would do to one.

Let me know when anyone builds an auto that will take 65 pounds of boost coming out of the hole with a 40,000 sled behind it, I will buy one.

Sticks rule!:D

ckrajewski,

I'am going to try and level the playing field a little. This is the crucks of the whole situation!!! Are you really getting unbiased information from a bunch of BRAND LOYAL FANS and VENDORS, DEALERS, MARKET PROMOTORS, and COMPANIES of the parts they choose to install or sell?

This forum is for asking questions, but read through the hipe if you can.

There was a time when vendors use to come on here to give us information until one day when they decided to try and tear each others company apart, thats the day we all lost.

Every after market producer of after market transmission parts has had product failures and or problems of one kind or another.

Heres a challenge to prove may point.

1. To all companies that sell after market transmission products... Can you honestly say that you have never had any problems or break downs with the products you manufacture and sell?

2. To all companies that sell after market transmission products... Can you honestly say that every customer has been 100% satisfied with your customer service?

What you are asking would be hard to do unless you had only 1 customer.

Exactly my point, thats why when these guys make such claims of inferiority it makes me irritated. Leave the big business out of a public forum and leave the forum a general discussion amongest none corporate persons.

If corporate personal IE: vendors, distributors, installers: want to tell us about a new product then tell us about it but don't sit here and us this forum a way to advertise their product over and over.

No Vendor Posts??

It helps all of us when they post. It is just the relentless bs like the above post that turns so many people off. There is no point to most of these posts, just whining like a bunch of old women:mad:

No one has answered this one yet, how many miles should and upgraded auto trans last. Of course the Sled pullers and Drag racers are expected to brake things in short order. I'm refering to those of us that pull RV's and Horse trailers ocasionly.

Some guys drive more than others and if the Cummins can go 300,00 plus miles with out overhaul should'nt the trans be as relieable as the engine.

My 96 5 speed W/ 4. 10 gears has lost 5th gear 3 times in 160,000 (Chrysler Nut Fix twice) miles and it is stock and never luged or shifted in to OD before 60 MPH.

My 99 was upgraded at 94,000 miles. With only DD#1 injectors 4' exhaust and a BHAF for mods, trans was shot, this is my go to town & Church truck, my 96 12V 4X4 5 speed 3500 HD reg. cab flatbed is the work horse.

Thanks to almost everyone.

To those with manual transmissions: If you have something to offer about an auto, I appreciate your doing so. If you post just to say you're glad you went that route then go away! If I wanted a manual I would've bought one! Now that I have that off my chest, there's alot of information to sift through. I think my first step will be to try and get rides with those who have had upgrades. Thanks for all the replies guys. :D

On the contrary, if we have an automatic transmission builder that will step up and say that his trans will take what the stick guys are dishing out, and still work for towing trailers, we have a CLEAR winner in the great transmission debate.

This could be a start of something big. Send some built automatics(any and all brands welcome) to pulling shops in the midwest and see whos comes back in a box first. You know all the pullers running sticks are non-biased, we will destroy everybodys parts, fairly.

Thunder in Muncie could have a new race-automatic transmission destroying competition.

It will be a timed event.

Muncie in June, Scheids in August, then finish with maybe, Tulare, best out of three.

I think it would draw a huge viewing audience. :)

Also on the contrary

Gene,

Think how much faster a stick truck will be if it had an auto in its place. Just ask Eric McBride, or any other person who has gone from a stick to an auto in the sake of speed. Given equal HP, an auto will flat out walk the dog on a manual every day of the week.

About all of the aftermarket tranies will last well in a moderate HP towing applictation. I have not heard of anybody who tows complaining about ATS, DTT, Goerend, Suncoast etc. Most of the towers are sub-500hp and that is not a stretch for a BOM'd 47RE.

I talked to Clint about longevity a while back and the only big probels are folks with enough power to twist off I/O shafts. The drag racers weld or snap something once in a great while but for the most part ATS seems to be building a very durable race transmission that tows very well.

I know there are a lot of DTTs out there that are happy.

Later,

Mark
