hi fellas... got to talking to a D-MAX owner on amateur radio the other nite... . GEEZ... . this guys is claiming he tows his Jayco 30ft (10,000 loaded) at 80mph and got 14. 5 mpg..... :--) i say "Riiiigggghhhhttttt"... i tow a 27ft HR 5er at 70-75 most times and my best is 11. 8 ,while my low has been 8. 9... all calculated by hand. ... now, admittedly he doesn't have NEAR the wind resistance as my high-profile 5'er,and,he does have a hi-back camper shell on when towing..... i must say i am slightly less than convinced those numbers are anywhere close to accurate!!!
towing at those speeds,it should be tough to get anywhere close to 14mpg IMHO... ... any thoughts???... he also complained about "the lousy fuel in the US,has to change fuel filter religously ... im gonna get more info, such as 2-4wd, axle ratio etc.
i do know he has the Allison transmission. .
anyway, just had to tell somebody... ... later... . tom
