After dealing with DW since the truck was new (about 4 years) and several dealers have looked at the truck and have come back with the same finding “it’s all within Dodge specs”.

I have installed the BD adjustable track bar and steering box stabilizer and tried adding caster which all helped a bit but still had DW.

It happened again last weekend 3 times so after doing a lot of searching here I found the TSB #22-005-06 and called my local Dodge dealer to install it.

Well after the install all I can say it WOW it’s like a new truck I’m no longer afraid of a small pothole or RR tracks or a bump on the Freeway at 70.

This was the best money I ever spent (well with the exception of the 6 pack and the stripper that one time).

"DW fixed" is a pretty bold statement, however I hope that it is true. In my experience it seems every case is a little different and what might fix yours won't necessarily fix mine. I think I have got mine "fixed" too, however I still hold on to the steering wheel just a little tighter than before I ever experienced DW----just in case. Good Luck!

I finally installed the Mopar steering upgrade back in Feb. after ball joints, stabilizers etc. and I consider the DW gone. I hit rough spots in the highway now without a worry about DW, something I could not do before. I have had to learn to drive with a lot less steering wheel movement as I basically just correct rather travel than steering like before. It was an expensive fix but worth it. Why did it take Dodge so long to acknowledge that there was a problem and than so long to fix it?

I too installed the "new" steering kit that Dodge came out with. A few weeks ago the drives side tie rod end bolt snapped off. After much discussion with Dodge about what I thought about their "new and improved" steering kit they paid for a replacement steering kit. They said they did not manufacture just the tie rod end, you have to replace the whole kit. I have also heard some people have been having the same problem with the new kits----I was hoping that this new kit would be the answer to the front end problems, or at least a partical answer but I guess not! It solved one problem and I'm afraid it might be causing another. IMO

what are the problems with the new steering?

I haven't heard of any problems with the latest steering linkage.

I too have upgraded, but I also rebuilt the trackbar, swaybar links etc all at the same time and haven't had any problems whatsoever.

The problem was that the tie rod end bolt snapped off! The new steering kit made a world of difference in the way my truck handled and the kit is a lot "beefier" than the steering linkage it replaces. As I said the problem was that the tie rod end bolt snapped off while I was pulling out of a parking space. If you research other forums you will see that others have had the same problem with the new steering kit--the tie rod end snaps off. As I said, after talking to Dodge about it they agreed to replace the "new kit" with another "new kit". The new steering kit costs app. $250 from a dealer, w/o the pitnum arm or the new steering stablizer. You should also replace them at the same time you install the new kit.

I thought the recall was because of that exact issue? I had a recall done on my truck for the tie rod end and was told by the dealer that some new trucks have the defective tie rod end and people that had the steering replaced with the steering kit could have also received the defective tie rod ends. That was why the recall had the dealer inspecting the trucks first, looking for the offending part.

The problem originally was poor handling and mysterious noises as well as death wobble. When they came out with the new updated assembly, the first couple of runs at a certain foundry were defective and breaking of tie rod ends started happening. I had first run kits installed on my 06 and the wifes 08 Megacab and both had to be updated with all new kits as well as pitman arms. I am much happier with the updated kit as the truck drives like a truck should. Before it was kind of a toss up which side of a rut it would climb or what speed the death wobble would start up at.

Do you have the "AE" or the "AF" kit?

What does the new upgrade consist of and what is the price tag?

About 1K, but I complained about DW a couple of times when it was under warranty to deaf ears.

After the repair I call 800. 992. 1997 to complain again and a Rep. said she would look at it and 4 days later she called back and said they would pay for the repair:)
