I dynoed my truck on saturday and the #'s I was putting down with the TST PM3 on dont seem right.

With just the mach 1. 6's, Catcher,and Dodgezilla I put down 352/754

Turn the TST on 5 404/823

Anything above that (6,7,8,and 9) I got the same #'s as I did on 5.

Is that all the 1. 6's will flow?

VP44 problem?

We were having problems getting accurate readings on several other trucks that day but I thought it was because they were autos and they couldnt get them loaded right. Could it just be the dyno?

I would tend to think that you have the fuel but you just don't have enough boost there to burn it! Same senerio on my friends 99 with 180hp inj and a tst box after level 5 the numbers didn't change cause the box fueled so hard that the turbo was way out of it map and quit making more power.

On my truck all I could squeak out of my stock turbo was 417hp on fuel only but I switched to a twin turbo setup and I jumped to 484hp with no other mods only more air! now I need a set of mach 6's and I'll hopefully be around 550+

I have video of the dyno runs I will try and post up later but I didnt have much smoke if any on the top end. I had heavy smoke until the turbo spooled and then smoke cleared up. I was hitting 42psi with the DZ so the turbo was fully spooled.

Yeah, I don't think it's the turbo. With that turbo (literally) I pulled a 465hp with a little bigger set of sticks and a Comp, and it was still fairly clean burning on the top end.

A couple of things that come to mind right away, such as your tall tires and 3. 55 gears which will suck up some HP. Also, is there a chance you could be throttling to aggressively and blowing out the fires with too much fuel? (maybe start the run at 1500-1600 rpm?)

What brand of dyno was this?

PC12DRIVER On all of my pulls I shifted to 5th set rpms to 1600 and floored it. And if I was blowing out the fire shouldn't there be smoke?

MKothI'm not trying to be an *** you but is this from personal experience or do you have links to other people having this problem?

I have a TST comp on my truck, and with the stock HO pump there was no seat of the pants gain from level 5-9. The dyno may show a little difference.

I disagree with MK. Myself and others have made over 500hp with a ho pump.

That is very well possible, but injectors play a big part in those kind of numbers on an HO. I set of mach 5's or II BFI's should get you over 500 no problem.

Correct. I know how smokey my Comp was before the turbo spooled, and I was just thinking that your Catcher probably fueled harder and could have been blowing out the fires down low. But if you're starting @ 1600 rpm, the DZ is already pretty close to lighting off. If there was minimal smoke, you've got enough air.

Fwiw, I was instructed to use 6th and smoothly roll in the throttle for the most accurate numbers on a Dynojet. Do you know the brand of dyno you were on?

There is no more power past a Mach 4. 5 on an HO pump - that's coming straight from Don M. ;) That was why they were developed in the first place. You should know that since you seem to be so well-educated on the limits of the HO pump.

On the TST box, I've never heard of anyone having problems making power past level 5 on an HO.

I finally got the vid uploaded.

So if I were to get a set of m4. 5's would the TST box do anything, or do the 4. 5's use all the HO's fuel themselves?

I am not well educated on anything, just stating my personal experiences with my HO truck.

I remeber there being a thread about this some time ago. I am not 100% up to speed on Don M's stuff, so I might have some of my stuff mixed up. The mach 4 (or 4. 5) is the max peak power an HO will make, but a mach 5 or 6 will make the same HP peak, but the power band will be wider. IIRC.

As far as the TST, TST themselves doesn't recommend the PM3 Comp

for the HO trucks, there must be a reason for that.

Yeah, on a stock truck the reason is: HEAT

He's not stock, on turbo or injectors!

4. 5's + a Comp should take an HO to around 500hp, and I think a TST box instead of the Comp would be pretty close to that. Just the 4. 5's would put you at about 400hp.

What gets me is that there wasn't any change between the higher levels. Even though your injectors are on the small side (if you call 90hp small), there should be some change. Maybe a bad box, maybe a worn VP. Or maybe the engine wasn't getting loaded up long enough to show the hp increase (5th instead of 6th). But don't worry about being against a HP wall; you still have about 100 hp to go. How was your fuel pressure during the run?

BTW, cool video! I had no idea that turbo was so loud on the outside!

His box must be working, my truck doesn't smoke anywhere near that anytime and I did 372HP at the wheels with my "old school" DDII injectors (90HP)! THat dyno seemed to accelerate way too quickly.

John

Just watched the vid. The dyno is allowing the engine to accelerate way too quick! Diesels respond to load; the governor(or programming) and the turbo were trying to "catch up" but the engine was accelerating too fast. Try a different dyno.

An HO will make over 500 with a stock VP. Mine makes 511 with just Jammer 3 and a bit, drag Comp & Edge BB turbo.

Should be in 6th gear on the dyno with that kind of power.

I spoke with Mark at TST the other day, on HO's they don't recommend the PM3 Comp. And that anything over level 6 will not increase HP but will give a small increase in TQ. I just sold my Drag Comp and purchased a Smarty, love it with my injectors. I will be buying a PM3 soon to run with the Smarty. My last dyno was 475/981 with the standard Comp, 411 hp on injectors only. Never got a chance to dyno with the Drag Comp before I sold it. New #'s soon with the Smarty/injectors only and Smarty/injectors/PM3.

Any new #'s yet??

I dynoed on a different dyno Saturday and put down 406/948. I still think something isnt right. Torque is great but the Hp seems low. I'm showing a p1693 code on my Smarty so I guess I need to stop by a Dodge dealer and get them to scan it.
