Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) dyno testing in Houston

i just had the vp replaced and now i was thinking of having a dyno test.

what will this tell me?



there is still something wrong. no pulling power at all. it's struggling when i used to forget i was even pulling at all.

my sensors and injectors are all original. should i start replacing the iat and map sensors?

Sounds like the lift pump, check pressures if you don't have a fuel psi gauge. Then scan for codes to see where the problem is. I'm sure you did something to the fuel pump when the vp went right?

new lift pump and relocated in front of tank; 15# idle; 12# wot



now that i'm reading my question again, i don't think i have researched enough to ask the best question. will have to get back later for the ???

actually, i want to map my ecm and see if it's stock or been retarded back (my suspicion).



will a dyno test do that? or will it just graph the hp and torque curves?

It will just show hp & lb. ft. Have you tried a scan tool? Also, are you sure you did the vp timing correctly? Just trying to give some ideas.

had mechanic do it. his experience is rv diesels and pickup diesels. installing banks systems and the like. i just assumed it was timed correctly. he told me there were two ways to pep up the truck:

1. the ecm

2. advance the cam timing in the vp. he said he used to have a tool that would plug into the vp and he could adjust, but didn't have one anymore (are these available to the common person?).



i would like to check both. what softwares are out there that can answer these two questions?
