I have a 2011 VW Jetta TDI, & have been using what the VW dealer sells & recommends, the full synthetic 5W-30 Castrol SLX Professional.
It is ACEA C3, VW 504 & 507 rated, says Clean Performance Technology on bottle, costs between $8.00 to 9.00 a quart/liter.

Would this be an acceptable oil to use in the Eco-Diesel? As it is for the VW TDI.
Robert & John did not test this Castrol oil in their last oil tests in the last couple TDR issues.

I do my own oil changes & was thinking I could buy just one oil for both vehicles at the same place, if compatible.

Thanks in advance.

Do a search on here I believe this has been talked about there is a off the shelf oil you can use that is approved for the eco diesel

I'm with Patty and echo his "peace of mind" statement.

Now, pardon me while I go and change the oil and use some cost-effective, synthetic, 5w40 Shell Rotella T. (On second thought, I'll wait until after the warranty has expired.)

Chicken!! Repeat after me, "I am my own warranty station!"

Here is a list of a few that meet the Chrysler spec.

Mobil 1™ ESP Formula 5W-30 Advanced Full Synthetic Engine Oil. It is a ACEA C3 low ash synthetic meets Chrysler MS-11106

Kendall GT-1® Full Synthetic Euro Motor meets Chrysler MS-11106

QUAKER STATE® ULTIMATE DURABILITY EUROPEAN L 5W-30 also meets Chrysler MS-11106

Pennzoil Platinum VX SAE 5W-30 IIRC this is factory fill.

No Shell oil listed with Chrysler MS-11106 as of yet.

This is not the specified PENNZOIL for the EcoDiesel. kvtcomdo had it right in post #8. I believe Quaker State and Pennzoil are made by Shell.
All you have to do is read the spec for both, only ones with Chrysler MS-11106 spec are ones I listed. The one listed in #8 is not for diesel car or truck and low ash for particulate filter. That said it's your truck go with that oil and if you use the non spec oil and have a engine/exhaust failure you are one on the hook if Chrysler Warranty division finds out wrong oil used.

Looks like I owe an apology to people here, seems the Pennzoil for our ECO diesel has gone thru a change in container looks, but same oil. Here is current container, also found doing some searching that Pennzoil gave Chrysler has special pricing arrangement for putting the Pennzoil as factory fill and dealerships are suppose to be selling the oil at just under $6 a quart. This was a marketing stroke of genius as it sells lots of Pennzoil and brings oil & filter changes back to dealership where it can lead to helping keep service in the shop to exposing the owners to new vehicles and possible increase in sales revenue.

What blows my mind is local Wal-Mart sells it for either $8.97 or $9.97 just can't remember for sure, which I posted on another forum last year. I saw the M-1 ESP 5w-30 in a local parts store about same time for $10 or $11 on sale IIRC.

The Pennzoil website seems very out of date, doesn't even list 2014 model year oil recommendations for Ram trucks. When you do finally locate a Technical Data Sheet for the Ultra Euro L it too is out of date and doesn't list MS-11106, at least not the version I could find.

I bought enough Mobil 1 ESP for my first 3 changes when I found it on sale up here. The Pennzoil is very hard to find around here except at the dealer but they wanted $17 and change per liter. I'll stick with the Mobil and stock up when I see it on sale.

Amazing how import duties can screw up a good thing. I went and looked at the $6 quart of Pennzoil I bought at the dealer in Jan and it has MS-11106 printed on the label. I bought the quart for topping off and truck hasn't used any in 5000 miles, not to mention a $36 intake air filter that still not needed at 15,000 miles.
