AirDog 150 Install, What to do with the Factory Return Line?

Smarty Revo settings

I sent mine in a few months ago for the update and for the built in turbo timer. The turnaround was about a week or so UPS ground. I am currently waiting for a call from my local DTT installer for my new trans, and I stepped up to the billet input&hub. I'm thinking of getting the Hot unlock but I'm concerned with EGT's, I don't tow heavy regularly and live at sea level. DO you think I should go with water/meth injection as well? Thanks and don't forget the turbo timer it works great and is adjustable for EGT and time shutdown.

I checked the installation instructions online to get an idea of what's involved before the Edge gets here. According to the instructions the hole for the EGT probe is to be drilled with a 21/64" or 5/16" drill bit and then tapped with a 1/8" NPT tap. There is quite a bit of difference in size between 21/64" and 5/16". Which size bit is best to drill the hole with?

I'll have to check out what update it was, but I know I went from a early unit to the latest update they had. Edge sent me a completely new unit, the new one you can disconnect the box from the harness. I only sent it in for the turbo timer upgrade for I think 65-75 bucks, no problems with the old one to speak of. As far as the pyro I drilled it quite a while ago and don't remember the exact drill bit I used, but all I did was follow the directions and it went smoothly-one tip I can give you is to take your time and use a quality tap ie. no Chinese garbage. Good luck!

Installed my Edge Attitude w/Juice today. Everything went smoothly except for a dull 1/8" tap. Ended up having to scramble to Sears at 8:30pm for a new tap. With the new one, getting the hole tapped in the manifold was a breeze.

The late night test drive went well. It appears that everything is working as it's supposed to. I do have a few questions on how you guys have your Attitude set up, though.

What 4 parameters do you guys typically view on your Attitude?

What is your max boost alert, max EGT alert and max engine temp alert set to? I raised my boost alert to 40psi because the default 36psi setting was going off way too easily (on setting 5 anyway). The default EGT and engine temp alerts were left as is.

Those of you who use the turbo timer, what EGT do you have it set to?

Just got the hot unlock code. Wow! I can only stay at WOT to about 55-60mph before the 1350* EGT alert sounds, but it sure does get there fast!

Turbonatr- here's my parameters, Display- boost, EGT, intake temp, eng. temp. Limits- 40 psi. boost, EGT 1400, Eng temp 210. Turbo timer- 310F. I'm thinking of waiting to get water/meth injection before the HOT upgrade. My EGT's can hit 1350 on level 4 already. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, Kday.

Currently, my parameters are EGT, boost, vehicle speed (my steering wheel blocks the factory speedo) and engine temp.

Like I said in a previous post, I raised the boost alert to 40psi. Even on setting 5, it will hit 41psi when the converter locks. On the HOT setting it has hit 43psi.

Has anyone tested the 1/4 mile performance test versus actual quarter mile passes on the track? I'm curious as to how accurate the Attitude is.

I have the snow performance stage 2 on my truck. All works well with no problems and the install was not to hard. I have tried window wash and the 50/50 mix from Snow, I set the controler to start injection at 15psi and full injection at 35psi. When It hits 15psi the boost jumps very fast and truck pulls pretty hard, but hard to see huge drop in egt. Seems like a good 100 drop in temp, but hard to tell differance when driving. Max egt is about 50 to 100 drop with 50/50 mix. I think a BD intercooler would drop egt about the same without the power. Also the tank goes down very fast. I used a gallon in one day around town. Alot of pro and cons, but makes your truck sound cool when you tell people it has water/meth injection.

Is the HOT upgrade a large difference and how hot does it get? I'm toying with the idea of the HOT upgrade and water meth injection to keep things in check. Or I may go the other route and get a Smarty with the injection, I just hate to lose the adjustability of the Edge. I just had a DTT trans installed and the power seems to be getting to the pavement a lot more efficiently but I'm wanting more power now that I can harness it. I'm hoping to stay with the stock turbo since I'm not planning on towing huge or racing/dyno pulls just want to safely have some extra HP to safely dust off a pesky PS or DM. :D

WoodJ,

How do you like your Juice/EZ stack? Is stacking the EZ worth it? Noticeable power increase?

I sold the EZ a few weeks ago to my friend for his stock 2006. He is happy with it and said he is getting about 2mpg better milage. I think the juice gives me all the fuel I can burn at this point and have read about higher pressure causing injector damage. I was at the Nor Cal diesel ralley in redding California this weekend. My truck dynoed 487hp on diesel and 531hp with 50/50 water/meth (NO EZ). I am planing on a fuel pump and 50hp injector nozzels from DDP to replace the EZ.

The HOT setting is one of best things I ever did and is a huge difference over the 100hp setting. I saw about a 150 increase in temp over the 100hp level, but the current setup (see signature) without water/meth I have a max temp of 1350, with water/meth (50/50) about 1300 max.

Wood J,

What kind of boost numbers are you seeing with your HTT turbo... I can hit 40 lbs. of boost with the stock turbo on number 2 of the edge?

Would a new intercooler be worth it... i dont know how much boost and power these stock coolers are good for?

The HTT turbo is wastegated at 40psi and holds at 40 at full power. My stock turbo would see 41-42psi at full power, but volume of air and low tempature of the air is what you want (not high psi). The higher the psi the higher the temp. With the watwer/meth the boost will hit 44psi. My stock intercooler has plastic end tanks and everyone tells me they are weak, but I have had no trouble yet. The core of aftermarket intercoolers have less restriction and are rated up to 100psi. I think the stock can handle some high pressures.

PROBLEM! last night I towed my buddy's boat(approx) 6k, truck ran fine I shut it down and went to leave a couple of hours later. Started it up and it felt like I was running on 3 cylinders, then it wouldn't shut down! To turn it off I had to take off the air cleaner and close off the air to it. I'm going to call Edge today and send it back. The thing that puzzles me is I unplugged the unit and left the wiring harness in and it wouldn't fuel-no boost so I ended up taking the whole wiring harness in the pouring rain/dark just to get home. Needless to say I'm not a happy camper, worst part is I just dropped a pretty penny on a DTT. I may be going to a Smarty, can't have these reliability issues.

Sorry to hear that, sounds like shut down problems could be from the turbo timer. A fried of mine with an 2006 turned his truck off and went into his house to find out that half an hour later the truck was still running because the turbo timer did not turn it off. I have been lucky with mine, 3 year and no problems. Good luck with yours.

I didn't see any transmission mods in your sig... how is it holding up? Edge says don't go over level three or bye bye transmission. Just wondering cause I am scared to turn mine up til I get a new TC.

I'd like to hear from the Edge Attitude w/ Juice users on how they like their Edge. Things they like, things they don't like and the overall performance of the unit. Noticeable power increases? Effect on fuel mileage? Hot Unlock worth it?

I'm seriously considering the Edge Attitude w/ Juice for my 04. 5. Currently, I am running an Airaid CAI, Stinger 2 module and 4" straight pipe (5" Magnaflow SS system on order). The truck has a 48RE and 3. 73 gears. This is my daily driver and I also tow a 26' box trailer on the weekends which is loaded with a '73 Vega Wagon and all the tools and goodies necessary for a day at the drag strip.

Edit: See post #45 for an update. Edge Attitude w/Juice installed tonight! 6/12

I haven't had any luck with my edge jwa so far. It has spent one 2 week trip back at edge for the monitor showing bazaar numbers but still giving the boost in power. It comes back and works for the install and then doesn't work for the same reasons as before when I started my truck to go to work in the morning. So, back to Edge again for repairs. This time for 5 weeks. If it doesn't work this time I am giving up, I'm tired of getting the run around about why it isn't getting fixed and sent back still broken, it has been gone for 7 of 8 weeks and still hasn't work for even one day. Hopefully I will have something positive to share from my trip next week. I will install it again in the morning, then tow 1000 mi trip with 10k in tow in and or on truck. Hope your experience will be better than mine has been so far. Reliability and timely customer service suck so far. :{
