I doubt it could be any of those things, if that was the case there is a very, very little chance we all have bad connections or weak batteries or such. it seems pretty cut and dry to me, my comp doesnt turn on after sitting all night and the temperature is below ~30 degrees...

i agree... . i have had my comp(ver 8) for well over 3 years and have been in -45 temps and it always worked fine... ... and a day after the DC up grade ... . -5 it would not turn on until i cycled the key..... edge has the problem not our trucks

Billvo, you won't need cold days to test. The Ver 8 also will not shut off from time to time even in the midst of Summer. I never had a problem with Ver 7, but sold it and then went back and bought an Ver 8. I have sent mine in once because of the issue of it not shutting off, once it came on by itself, basically the unit becomes unresponsive, unless you cycled the key. I sent it back and a new one was rushed too me. So far with the new one this has happend only once last fall, the first 3 LEDs were lit up and buttons non-functional, cycle key and all is good. It has not acted up since.

However I am sending it back anyway to have it looked at since I am refreshing my ride with a few new goodies, and chasing a gremlin, and I want to make sure all is OK with the unit while in the hunt for the problem.

If what is going on with my ride points too the Edge Drag Comp I will post what it is doing. I have a few other things to check, and want to pin point the problem before I speculate anything. So Please do NOT ask what maybe going on, I am trying to avoid a thread high jack.

This thread is a good thread as I have thought this issue was limited to just a few... ... ..... gotta love the power of the forum.

Mine started to do this now also.

I have been doing some testing on mine to see if I can get around the cold issue. I tried several different grounds and power supplies and bypassed everything and ran power and grounds directly to batteries and it still will not operate when unit is cold. I just sent them an e-mail explaining everything and see if they will do a warranty replacement on it. I think the only thing mine hasn't done yet is the goofy led christmas deco thing. Now that will probably start tomorrow.

It has worked flawlessly all summer and now since the temps got to around 40 degree F again it all starts over again with more problems to boot.

Edit: Now that I have it wired to a battery source it will turn on with the power button every time but it will not fuel the pump until warm. It is just unresponsive with any control at times now.

Well I talked to them today and they are sending me a completely new unit for warranty. They were tight lipped about having figured out any of these problems yet. In other words NO.

All 1 can do is try the new one and see how it works and for how long.

I talked with them for a little while at SEMA and seems some new things might be coming out to replace the ver8. They did the same thing with me, replaced the whole unit with a brand new one. So far close to one year and no probs. Glad they helped you out, as I do believe so changes are in store for Edge soon... ... ..... little birdy said a few things to me a few weeks ago. Later Jim.

i Had mine updated to the drag comp and when it's 32 deg. or colder i have to cycle the key twice to get it to come on..... a PIA... i called them when i had it up-dated... about a year ago and they said they know of the problem but they had no fix for it yet and they put me on the list.

My email sent to Edge. Calling them Monday!

Please add me to your list awaiting a fix with the Edge Comp Version 8 Firmware effecting the functionality of the Edge Comp. during cold weather.

I live in the Pacific NW (Everett, WA. a suburb of Seattle) & we are in our Winter weather so my Comp won't turn on without cycling the key several times & then it will turn on when cold at 40* or lower outside temperatures exist. When the cab warms up the box will turn on everytime so it is a temperature problem with the box itself. Attached is a link to various other members of TDR who are also experiencing the same problems with & without the Drag Comp upgrade. I personally am running just the standard Edge Comp, not the Drag Comp.

They have read all the threads here on TDR as I gave them links to several last winter when I was dealing with them. They are now sending me another 1 due to more issues as posted above. Having known sooner of the new version being tested to replace the version 8 I would have waited and lived with the issues for a couple more months. But now that it is cold again it is a PITA dealing with it.

Am I glad I checked this out! I bought a new Drag Comp in August, it worked great until a few weeks ago. I live near Klaybus, we started our cold season and I noticed my DC wasn't on! After 30 miles it came on, so I called Edge just before Thanksgiving and the tech I spoke with acted like he had never heard of this problem before!

I'll be calling on Monday, especially since I have this new info. Thanks guys!

REAL disgusting that they (EDGE) try to use that same old tired DC line "they ALL do that", or the "GEE, this is the FIRST I have heard of this problem... ":rolleyes:

C'mon you Edge reps - you're not really fooling ANYONE with that lame pile of CRAP!:p

The word is out, it's no secret any more, so clean up your act!

And with the arrival of winter cold, we're sure to see lots MORE posts here... ;)

Received a email from Edge today & they have a fix!

Received an email from Gerry Wilson today from Edge. He said they were aware of the problems with the cold weather functionality & believe they have a fix. They have a new software version 10. 8 available that is currently installed in one of their trucks in Utah?

Anyhow, he said if you send it in and request that the software be upgraded to 10. 8 it should resolve the cold weather issues... . Mines going into the mail this week.

Clay

Thanks for the info.

Hopefully the one they are sending me is the new version. I will let you know when it gets here, hopefully in a day or two.

I was just reading your sig & have a question for ya. Running those big injectors are you throwing any codes with your box not installed & performing some boost fooling?

I have had no problems the last time I had the comp out. But I run a smarty also. But believe me without the extra fuel from the comp the smarty is no fun to drive with alone. Same goes for comp only without the smarty but it is better that way than with out the comp. But never had any codes.

Has anyone else had issues with their Comp losing all power on level 3-5. My VP44 tap wire function has lost power for the second time. My first Comp box lasted a few weeks and the second lasted maybe two months. I'm getting ready to send my box back for a third replacement Comp.

I just had my truck on the dyno today and with the Comp on 3x3 I had

343HP. With the Comp on 5x5 I had 313HP:rolleyes: I think there might be something wrong with mine too:-laf

Don't be too sure there. It is VERY possible/probable you do not have enough turbo to support the amount of fuel your COMP is pushing, thus putting the fire out!!! Trust me on this one as I have the same problem you have. Remember to much excess smoke is NOT more power.

I'll be willing to bet your not the only one to have had this 'problem'. ;)

Comp 10. 8 update!

Received my 10. 8 Comp last week & the software didn't cure the cold power on problem & now this Comp is no better than an EZ! My replacement box doesn't fuel as good as the version 8! This one the pump tap isn't working on & yes, it's soldered in place! Also getting the every other lit LED too.

Calling Edge Monday looking for a refund or at least a trade down to an EZ. The last EZ I owned was very reliable!

Spunky, the strange thing is that I had zero smoke on level 5, when I can blot out the sun on the street with the

comp on either 4 or 5. It was as if it wasn't fueling at all. I can run 3 with no smoke on any sublevel, but level 4 and 5 always will give me black smoke if I fuel hard. I had the 4 sublevel at

5. I know I have more fuel than turbo but I should have had smoke at level 5. I was expecting around 385HP with my mods and if the comp was acting right I should have been right there with the extra 40HP.

That's interesting you didn't have any smoke on the dyno. It's been so long since I have been on the dyno I can't remember what my smoke was like. I just know it was lower on 5 then 3.
