Installed my Edge EZ today. Only took 30 minutes even after looking for the connections. I expected a big increase in the higher RPM range. I have it. ! What I like most is the tremendous increase from 1500-2500. With my 5th wheel and the 3:54 gears I was worried about power at 1800-2000. This Puppy is like an entirely different truck. No observable smoke. I am amazed. I can also see where you could slip your clutch pulling a trailer. I will just have to roll the power on slowly when towing. :D :D :D :D :D

The stock clutch is fine if all you have is an EZ. It may only last you a year if you tow a lot, but it will hold up. Now, if you get greedy like I did and want more power, then plan on getting a new clutch. All I'll say there is note my sig and you'll know which one you DON'T want.

IMO if you're happy with the power level, keep your stock clutch. It's a damn nice clutch from the point of FEEL. My truck used to be fun to drive. Not anymore. Between the balky shifting and this clutch from hell, I only drive it if I absolutely have to. Hopefully I can come up with the cash to get a better clutch in the near future.

Heck, DD drove my truck while I was in Vegas and even they agreed that it's the grabbiest thing they've ever driven this side of a semi. Far worse than their own Donnelly/Sachs clutch.

Must Be Awesome!

After seeing how my truck runs now, I can only imagine how a truck like Big Saints, Emd Diesels or Nowell's runs with the Bombing they have done. :D :D :D

Don, glad to see that you have joined the ranks of the BOMBers  . If you ever get out this way, I'll take you for a ride in my 4 ton Vette :D .

Roaring & Rumbling

Big Saint,

I heard a loud Roaring & Rumbling last night, ran outside to see if Vandenburg was launching a missile. They were not. I figured it must be you leaving for work with that 6" stack. :D :D :D

:p I too just installed an EZ today. The problem is the reflection of my teeth in the windshield:D When do the injectors and clutch get here?

Towing

Towed my 5th wheel about 350 miles today and it's like having an auto trans. Once I got in 6th, I only had to drop into 5th a couple of times on these coastal hills. Impressive:D :D :D

Don Rogers... Good choice on boxes. . The Edge EZ is a good way to go for increased power for towing. You will be able to get more, with some injectors, ie. , 275RV, DD1's-DD3's etc. You will however, eventually need a new clutch. Don't let RobG talk you out of a SouthBend Clutch. I have one and so do many other Bombers, and It is one of the best replacement Heavy Duty clutches on the market today. RobG had a bad install problem (not the vendors problem) and is blaming it on the clutch. . Good luck on your future upgrades. . :D

My whole point that people seem to be going to great lengths to ignore is that South Bend Clutch LIED at least TWO TIMES. It's not about whether the clutch was defective or not or whether the installation was done right or not. It's all about the fact that they LIED and then they went so far as to publically flame me for taking them to task on it here in this forum. THAT is the reason I have a beef with them and the reason why I will never stop making it known what happened.

If SBC wanted to make good on it, they still could, and this could get resolved, but I don't see that happening.

So once again, when a company promises to do something and then they go back on that promise, or try to weasel their way out of it, there is a problem.

Just because there have been many without a problem doesn't discount the fact that I did have a problem. It should give others pause to consider how SBC might handle things if THEY should have a problem.

Don Rogers... as you can see from the above post, RobG has had a run in with South Bend Clutches. His beef is since the installer of his clutch screwed-up the install and the fact that he got ripped-off on the install price he expects the vendor to pay for the second rip-off in labor for the second replacement clutch. I know this sounds confussing, the bottom line is the clutch does work properly, when installed properly. The point I trying to make here is, if you have a problem with a Vendor do it off line. When you are ready to up-grade your clutch, poll the TDR membership and get there imput. I'm sure the majority will say South Bend. Don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch.

No Heber, it's you who doesn't understand. One more time since you can't seem to grasp the point:

- South Bend Clutch said they would cover the cost of the second labor installation. They said this again even after inspecting the original clutch and saying it was installer error (whether it was or not).

- South Bend Clutch THEN decided to renig on that promise.

- South Bend Clutch now has a very p!ssed off customer that is never going to be quiet about what happened until SBC honors the promise they made.

THAT is the whole problem here. Installation price is irrelevant, and you can't seem to understand that things do cost more here in the SF Bay Area.

I'm sure you and others will still continue to ignore the facts just as you did in the past.

South Bend Clutches

Hi Guys,

I followed the posts from RobG and Peter. (I stayed out of it for once) I will do my own install and plan on the SouthBend when my original gives up. I do baby it and think if I roll the power on slowly, it will last a while. ;) ;) ;)

The horse died all of the beating it with stick won't make it get up again. Move on. I don't mean go away, but it is time to let the subject die.
