Fuel Mileage Issue

If you can't notice a difference in power between your 08 and your 95 then there is something seriously wrong with your truck. On wet roads I can brake the back end loose in the first 4 gears with this truck, not a chance with the 95, even though the 95 was bombed a bit.

Ahh, no I don't think there is anything wrong with that statement. My '97 with 250,000 miles on it will run circles around my new 4500. But my new 4500 will out pull my old '97 pretty easily. But then again, I have a few modifications to the '97.

But thats a 4500 not a 2500 or a 3500 there is a Big Difference a stock 08 is 2 sec quicker then a 06 so with your 97 it would be something to see .

Exactly!

John, it would be worth driving another 6. 7 truck like yours to make sure your truck is running up to snuff. I had about 50 extra HP on the 95 and my 08 is faster, stronger, smoother and quieter than the 95, hands down.

I agree! My '97 had 30 hp extra and it doesn't compare to my 2008 in any respect. Faster, quicker, quieter, and stronger. If I can keep the 2262 bogeyman away, I'll be a happy trucker. ;)

I have a question on the 6. 7 Diesel engine ,

Does anybody have any pictures Of this EGR wiring And what the EGR even looks like ? And What the DPF looks like ?

What is a EGR delete? Any pictures on how to do this Also ,

Someone was saying something about putting a plate Where the EGR used to be ?

I went looking at the new 6. 7 4X4 Automatics We are thinking about buying one but I spoke to the service writers and they're telling me they are having big problems With the EGR plugging the turbo.

they say the fix is Drill and clean the turbo ?

He said they did a bunch of them And only got one return truck that needed to replace the turbo .

So what are your thoughts on the new 6. 7 Diesel?

Those of you who bought one , would you purchase another one ?

And please post some pictures of this EGR and DPF .

Thanks David

I deleted mine 3 months ago. Cruising empty on the flats, my egt's were 1050-1100. Now they are around 700 degrees. The truck used to smoke a tiny bit under full throttle ( I have 5" sidepipes with no DPF's) . Now with the egr delete, there is no more smoke. I used to have the p2262 or whatever code come up, saying see dealer for low turbo pressure. This is the code that tells people to get their turbo's cleaned or replaced. I have ignored this code. I refuse to go to the dealer for anything, since they are incompitent anyways. With 19,000 mile son the truck now, it has NEVER been to the dealer. And since deleting my imissions crap 10,000 miles ago, thare has been no more codes pop up since the carbon build up on the turbo has cleaned itself off since taking out the egr. If you go on cumminsforum.com you will see very detailed pictures of how the delets are done. My fuel economy didn't improve much at all with the egr delete, but the dpf delete gained me over 4mpg!!

Glad to see that you guys are discussing this. At the dieselstop (Ferd website) their webguys delete these types of posts, because they are against deleting govt. mandated emissions crap.

good thread here, i still think you might want to have to truck looked at, my '06 i can break it loose especially on wet roads. unless all the new ones are like that... ... ... .

back on the original topic - I just unplugged the EGR (brown connector) - got the cel but it runs great. Just make sure you have the latest flash from the dealer and it won't go into limp mode. Several on the other site have put thousands of miles on this mod with no ill effects - others HAVE had issues (rough idle, surging, etc) but overall no major problem. It's a huge thread on this over there - but worth reading completely. FWIW...

It will answer any and all questions related to this topic. Every 6. 7L owner should read it.

The EGT reduction is ridiculous. Easily 150-200* drop. It takes all of 15 seconds to open up the hood, pull the plug and shut the hood.

DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!!

I've been reading EGR delete threads all morning, so someone who has done it already please help me out here. I think I have got it figured out but I'm not sure:

- Pulling the brown plug on the EGR valve located on top of the intake horn will disable the EGR valve and close it off.

- A more involved and possibly better solution is to completely remove the EGR cooler and EGR tube and Valve and to block these plates off and put a patch hose for the coolant in and out that used to go to the EGR cooler. This also involves removing the butterfly valve that is located inside the intake.

- Both of these methods will produce soft codes and a CEL, and to have the CEL not be on all the time you must use something like the Edge with Attitude to delete the codes at start up.

Is this all correct? I just want to make sure I'm going down the right path here. Its time that the DPF and EGR system have an "accident". ;)

Peak Diesel?? Is that Mark? I've done all the deletes 6 months and 10,000 miles ago with no problems. My Edge clears the CEL's . If you want to see it all done on my truck, we can get together.

Yes, except for one thing. Most the guys on cumminsforum.com have stated NOT to clear the CEL for the EGR unplug as it makes it run rougher. Leave it be, with the light on.

Mine has been unplugged for a bit now and I just filled it up completely for the first time with it unplugged, to see the average tank mpg. I don't have a scanner/box yet, but the PMT looks nice!

Wouldn't disabling the egr without the dpf delete done cause plugging up issues to happen sooner and the regen to not function properly? From what I'm reading here is guys are unpluging the egr but haven't done the dpf delete. I s this what you guys are doing?

It is actually slowing the regens down and some people are getting twice the mileage between regens. Kind of the opposite one would think. I'm just telling you what I have read, not personal experience.

Most people are keeping the DPFs on. Those that don't, do the EGR and EGR cooler deletes, then the DPF delete.

I'm definitely hearing mixed things about clearing the EGR related codes. Seems that a lot of people are clearing them and not having any issues. I'm thinking of DPF delete, EGR and cooler delete, and Edge with Attitude to take care of the codes and help with fuel economy.
