For my 01 truck, which is better, easier, more efficient, etc, a pre-turbo or post-turbo egt gauge? Thanks in advance.

Go pre turbo, there is too big of a lag when hitting a grade. I ran both for a while to test the reactions. I saw a 600 degree difference when first hitting a grade. This of course was on a non-stock configuration

I don't know what's easier, but you want the sender pre-turbo to keep close track of what the EGT's are doing. Post-turbo is too far downstream. My buddy bought his truck with an EGT mounted post turbo and that thing is just about worthless. No only is it post -turbo but its mounted half way down the down-tube just before the exhaust makes the turn at the floor board.

As others has said, go pre-turbo. The response time is quicker pre-turbo than post-turbo. It is not difficult to install a egt probe in the exhaust manifold.

Geno's Garage sells the drill and tap. I would tape a magnet to the drill bit and tap to catch the metal shavings.
