Ozy and big papa. Why only ISSPRO? I’ve never had bad luck with auto meter other than the unable to dim problem without the dimmer model.

I'm not in the ISSPRO crowd.
I just installed a full set of Glowshift gauges after several of the highly praised VDO gauges failed on me.
Including a Pyro and it works fine.

I previously had Glowshifts installed into a friend's 98.5 three years ago and they work flawless.

I never said “only Isspro”, either. It’s just what I chose and would go with again. When I bought the ‘98, it had Autometers in it. The transmission gauge was OK. The boost gauge was ok except it was only 30psi and I’d peg it out. The pyrometer was a different story. It would work fine for a couple weeks and then it would bounce erratically and settle down below “0” for a week. I never figured it out. I heard it needed a ground to the engine but I never followed through before I sold it.

I said only ISSPRO because I’ve always have excellent luck with them, and have seen plenty of issues with other brands.

I want accurate gauges that will last a long time, and for me that makes ISSPRO the easy choice.

ISSPRO is the only gauge manufacturer I would personally ever use.

Geno's has the Isspro EGT gauges for $184. The boost gauges are actually higher at $195.

I never liked the Dicalbo guages I bought in 2003 as the lighting was terrible, but the EGT lasted 20 years and the boost gauge is still good.

I drilled and tapped the manifold the first week I bought the truck in 2008. My biggest concern was a good hole and tap thread. I made a driii and tap guide to insure minimum risk to the tools breaking. I used a lube and vacuum during machining operations. Ran the engine before installing fitting. No issues, except I should have bought a 0-30 versus 0-60 gauge.

Whelp got this done this morning. Wasn’t able to get the right angle to get the probe installed at the neck above the turbo so I went higher up. Did the install soon as I got home from a long drive with manifold hot. Went very slow, stopping and starting so my pieces weren’t huge. Also didn’t want anything breaking. Made sure to use brand new drill bits and tap.
Started with 1/8” pilot and then did the 21/64” bit and 1/8”-27NPT tap. Took about 3 minutes to drill and tap the hole. Installed the fitting and the probe. I bought the autometer 8544 gauge as I’ve used these in the past with good success so went with what I knew. I also like the look of the 3rd gen factory match.

Since auto meter gauges have a known issue dimming with the factory dimmer, I opted to also install an autometer dimmer box. This allowed me to get my gauges as close to my dash as possible but also be able to adjust them more if needed with just the box.

all in all pretty smooth install. Thank you all for the tips and tricks and boost of confidence lol.
