Ok, I've read what seems to be a myriad of threads on installing an EGT sensor pre-turbo. Seems there are as many ways as opinions. I tow a 5th wheel and want to monitor exhaust temps to protect the turbo. To avoid the inevitable "why", I just want to. 2012 6.7 unmodified with EGR and DPF, in CA so those have to stay. I know all the drilling and tapping details but..
1. I'd like to do it myself. Can the turbo be unbolted and separated from the manifold enough to slip paper or something in to catch shavings? Is this easy to do?
2. If the manifold has a wall inside, where is it and should the EGT be on front or rear cylinders?
3. Finally, should this really be left to a shop to do?
4. Is there a spacer which could be tapped for EGT and inserted between the turbo and manifold?

I did my own on my 05, 12 and on my buddies 06 and a 05 duramax. It's not as hard as it looks. Go slow and vac the shavings as you go.. DO NOT run the truck as you drill as some might suggest because if the bit does break you do not want that going into the spinning turbo. Diesel manor has some great kits with clear and complete instructions.

Thanks! Checked out the site. I found a picture of placement but no comments on if there was a wall to avoid or not. Usually I'd take this as there isn't a wall but others have said there is.

No grease, engine off and manifold cold.

Vacuum as you go, when you start the truck anything that is left in the manifold will be thru the turbo before the turbo is spinning fast enough to do any damage.

Good point about the turbo spinning up. No grease sounds like a consensus. Still not sure if there's a wall in the center to avoid.

Excellent, I suppose it's safe to drill in the center then. Thanks guys. If there are any other suggestions... feel free. One last thought. Is there enough play in system to unbolted the turbo and insert a 1 in spacer? That could be drilled and tapped. But I suppose if that were possible it'd be done by now.
