Recently installed EGT probe in exhaust manifold. I'm seeing temps up to about 1100 degrees on moderate grade and unloaded. Does this seem normal or do I have a problem. On fairly level road it runs b/t 500-800. I have noticed that the pyrometer gauge never drops below 100 even when engine is cold. Thanks for your help in advance.

Do you have any fueling mods? The EGTs seem a little high, if stock. Granted you started with more power than I did stock, but I could never get over 1000* empty, and that was WOT up a steep hill.

Good info here, too. -

Hi Ken,

I've put EGT Gauges on two 12Vs. Both those trucks would not top 900F ender full throttle on hills. One had 4. 10s and the other 3. 50s. Of course they climbed higher than that once the mods began. :)

My EGT gauges read below 100F with a cold engine, with the exception of those really hot summer days, where it read around 100F.

Hope that helps.

Joe

Do you have boost connected up yet?

My EGT used to run around 1150-1200F pulling a moderate (6-8%) grade in 5th gear (+-1850 rpm) at 60 mph with my camper on and pulling the boat. That was when I had the Banks Stinger installed and the Stinger would automatically defuel on EGT. I would still maintain 60 mph almost at all times.

I would not think 1000F is all that out of control unloaded, but still maybe a bit on the high side. But I never had gauges until I installed the Banks. Try maybe doing the same grade a bit faster, like a 200 rpm or so in the same gear. See if that helps or hurts.

My Pricol will go from below 100 when the truck is off. Under 200 (180ish) idling. 450-650 cruising on level ground depending on speed. I can get it up to 1400 or so if I stand on it up to 110. Hope that helps..... all temps pre turbo

EGT temperature

My gauge is an autometer. I notice that prior to shutting down after a lengthy idle the temp never drops below 400. Is there something I need to check and repair? Thanks

my gauge is an autometer and it takes 3 or 4 minutes to drop below 400 even when driving empty . epmty going up hills i can see 1200 . but even loaded super heavy going up hills with it to the carpet i have only pulled 1350 once. i washed the radiator out really good and now my egts are just a little bit lower than before amazing what some dust will do. also when i shut down for the day i run the heater on high for a minute or 2 and that realy helps drop egts quicker

My egt's were up to 1250+ last week with a recently added truck bed camper into the wind at 75MPH. The outside air was 20-25 farenheit. I was driving into a killer headwind, but that still seems hight to me. I have the quadzilla gauge and it always reads 10-20 degrees higher than ambient outside temp before start up. Even after short trips, it never drops below 300. I am on my 2nd quad unit and the first one read ALOT cooler than this one. Does this stuff sound right?

Ken

Try idling in neutral and see if the temps go down faster. My Suncoast converter is tighter than stock and will not allow the Egt's to drop below 400 or so. Your driving temps seem OK to me. George

Seems hot, with a couple minuets of idle I get below 300 and most of the time never get above 900 unless I have a trailer hooked up. It is possible that the gauge is at fault.
