Electric Brake Control

Hey Guys,



My father-in law has a 2000, 2500 2wd, 6 speed. He is pulling a 36' fifth wheel and his brake controler died.



He is in the market for a new one. He has a guy at work with one he loves. It has a digital display for the power level. I have no clue what a good unit is.



Can you guys lead me in the right direction?

The best = Brakesmart. It ties into your brake system and senses hydraulic pressure. $350, expensive but sweet (kinda like Kore suspension). It's the one going on my truck. Available in colors to match truck interiors.



Next best (or most popular) = Tekonsha Prodigy. Can be found for about $120, and works flawlessly. I have one on my F450 flatbed and it's great.

Both of the above are truly proportional controllers. The amount of trailer braking is a direct function of how hard you're pressing on the brake pedal. That's not the case with inertial (such as the Tekonsha Prodigy or Sentinel) or ramped time-based (such as the Reese Brakeman) controllers - I wouldn't waste my time installing an inertial or ramped time-based controller (and, yes, I've used both before the Jordan or Brakesmart were available. )

I went with a Prodigy and it works great. I haven't used anything else so I have nothing to compare it to. I think you can pick a Prodigy up for a little over $100 or so.

I just went to their website and it said that they have a production delay. What is that crap. It looks like they sell for $239.



I need one before June 4th. Are there any vendors that stock the unit?

Your money, your choice, but the Jordan is available over the Internet for less than $100.



I almost lost a truck and 5th wheel in the rain due to an inertial brake controller. I just hate to see anyone else make the same mistake, but at the end of the day, all I can do is share my experience.
