Group- It has been so long since I logged on to this forum, I did not even recognize the home page. Now for my issue. I am trying to wire up an electric brake controller in my 1995 ext cab long bed 4X4 2500 Ram Diesel. I have the manual with wiring diagrams, and the controller instructions and am in good shape except for finding the wire Dodge dedicated for the controller brake signal which connects to pin 2 of the trucks factory hitch trailer connector. The manual says the wire is light blue and is located "bottom left of IP". I assumed that IP meant "instrument pannel". I have the knee bolster off, and have looked everywhere (what a jumble of wires!) but can not find that elusive lite blue wire signal code B40. Any help out there? TIA:confused:

I have a 96 and by the wierdist chance I found out that I have this bundle of wires. Mine started on fire, poped the fuse and went out. The bundle of wires I have is red, yellow, green and black. I haven't had the chance to actually check what they do. But I would immagine that they are for the trailer wiring. The coding is to much of a considence.

On my both '95s the trailer wiring was bundled up on the right side of the IP somewhat low on the knee bolster. I didn't even have to remove the bolster to find it.

Beware! even though most brake controllers and the factory wiring have the same colored wires absolutely none of them match up. Makes it somewhat confusing, going blk to grn, grn to yl etc.

Guys, thanks for the inputs, but while I was waiting for some replys, I decided to do things the "old fashion way". I traced the harness from the trailer connector up along the inside of the frame on the drivers side all the way up to where it goes through the fire wall on the drivers side. Even with knowing where the bundle enters the cabin, I was unable to locate the wire. I did spread open the wire bundle covering before it went through the fire wall and do see a light blue 14 gauge wire. I will put my meter on it tomorrow, and if it is the correct wire. If it is, i think it will be easier to splice in to it there and run a new wire through the fire wall. I will also check to see if I can find the end of that wire on the right side per iflems suggestion. I think I should have mentioned that I have a 7 pin connector, and from what I can determine from the truck wiring diagrams and the trailer wiring diagrams, the colors DO match up at that interface. Wire color match at the controller is a different story, but there are ony 4 wires to connect. I can not believe I am the only guy who has had this problem! I will post the outcome when I finish.

Brake wire

I may have the answer!!

On my 95 extra cab I finally found the wire way up under the dash, near the firewall, within 6" of the left wall, totally buried, with a white tag labeled "Brake".

It is a single blue wire. It was behind a cluster of wires. I took the lower dashcover off, and that helped.

I will Check this afternoon and if you haven't found it I will go out to the truck and give you a more detailed description of where to find it. (I would do it now, but I am at work, and the truck is at home).

Thanks to the reply fron DSutton, I decided to look harder for that elusive lite blue wire dedicated by Dodge for the electric brake. I had to remove a bracket which held umpteen connectors and was right in front of the firewall penetration. Even with the bracket lose, I only found the wire by probing around with my hands. The white tag on the wire was a big help. I did verify that the wire did indeed go to the trailer plug at the hitch. I ran pos and neg wires right from the left side battery which required another poke thru the firewall, but it was straight forward. All I need now is the trailer!! Thanks to everyone for the help.
