there has been postings of several states starting emission testing. i live in utah and have not herd of any testing for diesels yet, but i am guessing it is just a mater of time.

i bought my truck new from a utah dealer. it came with a resonator but no cat. shorty after purchase i put a 4" exhaust on with a muffler (no res. ).

if they start testing here do i have to put a cat on or am i exempt because my truck came without one.

if that is the case is there a sticker or id number on my truck that would back this up. thanks for all replies.

Emmisions regulations have never been retroactive. They always set a future date for compliance to allow manufacturersthe neccessary time to figure out how to accomplish the goal and get compliant vehicles into the market.

yea but thats not the case with diesel trucks. generally if there is a new system out there to make your rig cleaner you have to comply. i no thats the case with some commercial use but i wonder if thats the case with you and me

All of our Port Authority busses have to obtain the most recent emissions stuff every time someone comes up with a new idea. The Orion busses from 1992 have the same emission junk as the Gillig busses purchased in 2004. They are constantly updating these vehicles.

I think that only applies to select groups of vehicles, but I am not sure.

Don't know about Huntsville, but they sure require emissions testing here in the Salt Lake area. Mine passes with flying colors, with 94K on the meter, and the EZ.
