Posted message the other day that I had the injector knock on my truck, well I brought it straight to dealer but it was not knocking any more so they ran a dianostic check with no messages and told me they needed to hear noise.

Tuesday took it back to dealer because they owed me a tank of fuel and sent one of there people out to take my truck and fuel it up, shortly after that we received a call from driver that truck was knocking and no power and smoking like mad (same problem as before) they told him to bring truck back. Truck was smoking so bad that some one called fire dept. and he had a escort back to dealer. Upon arrival they went into panic mode and had him shutdown NOW, and did another diagnostic test that showed low oil pressure only, I opened hood and checked oil and it was black and six inches over max and smelled like diesel. Well they finely admitted there was a problem on a truck with JUST 486 miles. Yesterday they replaced one injector and today they notified me that they ordered a new engine. Chysler wanted them to pull head and check for damage but Dealer refused and now I am gettin a new engine. Have had truck less than a month.

Hey, I wouldn't be complaining too much! With a failure rate as low as the CTD are, you should be happy you're getting a new engine. I'm sure it will be 100% reliable and you'll be happy with your truck. Sucks tho, that you have to probably wait for weeks without a truck while they do the work.

lost engine

Sorry to hear about your truck, BUT better to have it happen when a Dodge emplyee was driving it!, and not you 1K away on some freeway. ;)

I wish nI knew of one in my area.

It would be nice if we had a forum for rating our service and maintenance professionals.

I'm sure there are a lot of stories out there.

Not a bad idea - as long as we could sort out the sorehead unreasonable owners from legitimate complaints. We have our fair share of guys who will bomb the daylites outta their truck WELL beyond warranty coverage, then when something breaks, yank stuff off to attempt to defraud the dealer and get coverage to which they (knowingly!) are no longer entitled - THEN, when the dealership catches on and denies warranty, the owner squeals and whines loudly to all who will listen as to how he was "cheated" out of a warranty by a lying scumbag of a dealership. Happen all the time, and makes it pretty hard to sort out legitimate complaints from pure fraud and BS...

I agree with you, Gary. I think most of us are reasonably pleased with our dealers and service departments. I think most will voice their complaints rather than their praise and a dealer listing would be mostly a ***** session.

Dean: I'm pleased with my dealership service department, had the alternator bracket TSB done, a plug seeping a little anti-freeze, a tiny seepage oil leak valve gasket, also done the window felt TSB replacement an a re-tinting of the drivers an passenger windows (dealership payed for re-tint). Got out of there with only a scratch on the valve cover top (red-D that says Dodge). I ask the service writer "hey could they touch-up that D, since the service-tech scratched it". His reply was, we will order you another one. Even though I did'nt purchase my truck from them they have always treated me like I was their only customer. :D

I think TDR would rise above that. Yes, you will have negative feedback, and judging from the content you can pretty much see through the dribble.

The other side is that we will know when an exemplary dearer or shop exists, and be able to patronize them accordingly.

Didn't intend on hijacking the thread.

Glad to see the system worked as advertised, and a new motor is coming. HOO-YAAA

ButchJ,

Sorry to hear about your loss. Glad to hear your dealer is so good about it.

I'm sure they will be giving you a loaner for the time it takes to repair. Did they give you and idea of how long it will be?

One last hit on the "dealership report card" bit - might at least be a good thing to be more conscientious in reporting the GOOD ones we encounter - too often all we hear about are the bad ones - tends to cast them all in a poor light.

I hafta say, MY local dealer - Vacaville Dodge has been first class in my dealings with them, both buying and servicing my latest truck, and for many years with my older '91 I originally bought from another dealer - they keep a very neat and clean shop, and ALL their techs and reps are courteous in their behavior - I'd recommend them to anyone needing service... .

I'd say the same about Bolles Motors in Union, CT. They have always treated me very well. There are dealerships (not necessarily D/C) in the area that I will not do business with.

Dealers

Good dealers are hard to find. When you get one, make sure to send buisness their way.

I have been lucky in finding 2 good ones, and I'm very happy about it.

I can name you 2 locals to me that I have been very unhappy with. Neither has anything to do with denying any warranty work, just sloppy, untrained techs.

I have a third local that the jury is still out on. The work they have done has been great, but it was only once and a small job (MAP sensor).

While we are on the subject of good dealers, I have worked with Broadway Dodge in Denver (where I bought 3 trucks) and Breck Dodge in Tucson (for service only). In all cases, their work has been done correctly the 1st time with no hastle about warranty.

A quick note in regards to Cummins, called Cust. Ser and got into a discussion over mpg while loaded, rpm for towing etc, after close to 1/2 hour on the phone I came away much better informed about this little 5. 9 with a big heart. Lugging for towers is any sustained rpm below the max. torgue which for my 04 is any thing less than 1400rpm,they recommend 1650 to 1900 rpm for sustained hauling of heavy loads. They also have a complicated formula to calculate mpg at different rpm at different loads,I am rampling, sorry, the point is call Cummins with your tech questions, they are glad to help!!!
