I have a 99 with a very small oil leak rear of oil pan beginning of a/t area. This just makes a small spot on a clean garage floor sometimes. A little more mess on the underside of truck. I would love to know what is leaking or how to find it?I have retorqed the rear pan bolts but whats under the cover at the beginning of the A/T ? Do i have a bad seal ? This truck has always done this. The auto has been in and out maybe three times last time by a very good mechanic still I have this small leak? Please give me your ideas. Thanks

I have a similar leak. Small drips are collecting on the rear oil pan bolts. Oil runs down the transmission housing. Oil looks clean. The little spots on the cement disappear after a good rain. I would assume that engine oil (pan gasket) would be black and would not wash away. Issue 59 has an article about this subject. One member found a leaky heater hose fitting. The orange coolant looked like oil. Another member recommended a look at torque converter vent, overfilled transmission. I checked both of these areas, no leaks. Another member posted a fuel leak. My leaky oil has no diesel smell. I have noticed something curious. My crankcase vent hose has a little oil on it. Could oil vapor be condensing here then blowing around to the back of engine? Maybe. My next step is the dealer (warranty). Leaving my truck for a day, or more, is a big imposition for me, but I may have no choice.

Terry - check around your vaccum pump, mine leaks and the oil makes its way to the back of the motor and runs down right where you describe. You could also be leaking out of the back of the valve cover and it would run down in the same area.

We need to get together and chat one of these days.

Thanks for the replys gents. I,ll look into the vacuum pump seal kit. This is clean fluid not black motor oil so that could be the ticket. Yes JR we need the hook up for a beer one of these days. Give me a ring.
