For those of you who might not know this is what it looks like when you snap a turbine shaft

Any idea what caused the failure? Oil feed, air filter situation, waste gate, other stuff? Looks like you had lots of power! What did it sound like when she let go? Then what happened?

Godspeed Brother, Patrick

All that damage didn't happen when the shaft let go. It has been rubbing the wheel for a while from the looks of it.

I always remove the air tube and check turbo condition when I do an oil change. For my driving that's twice a year.

Ok well its been about 3 months since I had the intake tube off, it was fine then. As for the waste gate, its not hooked up its lock shut, I think as for cause the shaft may have been over stressed. It was a factory intercooled H1C that I installed a 12cm exhaust housing of a HX35, it spooled great but it ran 12 to 15 psi at 65mph and 38psi max I think the shaft just couldn't take it. When it broke I was doing a quick start off the line at a red light when I heard a loud pop followed by a hissing sound and a total loss of boost and a large cloud of white smoke from the oil burning burning in the housing.

The shaft broke off clean with the compressor wheel, the exhaust wheel has minor damage from contact with the sides of the housing.

I wondered if you had disabled the waste gate.

See this a lot on CAT 3406 engines where the driver has zip tied the waste gate line off to get up over that hill a gear higher. The intake side is only capable of compressing a finite amount of air. When the exhaust side side keeps on shoving the shaft will snap off. Every time.

I dont see where the problem is. :D:D

Look on the bright side, it can't happen to yours because it never leaves the shop.......:D

Needs a lot of fuel and air, plus that would involve actually starting the engine.....

Sorry, it's been a very loooong winter.....
