Here is one solution for controlling a Jacob's ex-brake on a 5spd/6spd. Ram.

Purchase a Hurst T-Handle w/12 volt switch P/N HUR-1530003 3/8x16 thread

Purchase a 10mm x 1. 5 tap

Tap the T-Handle and jam nut to 10mm x 1. 5. No re-drilling necessary. Install T-handle on shifter and connect one wire from T-Handle switch to one side of the "on-off" switch supplied by Jacobs. Connect other wire from T-Handle switch to the other side of the "on-off" switch. Job complete.

( do not connect to the" indicator light" side of the "on-off" switch supplied by Jacobs

Now you can use your right thumb to control the e-brake anytime you wish. The "on-off" switch will function if you wish to use it.

I use mine just to slow down in traffic or going down-hill. Works great. The down side is getting use to the T-handle instead of the round knob.

What sucks in life is if you can think of it, some one else has already done it. :D

Hurst T-handle shifter with thumb switch. This activates the exhaust brake on command when pushed. Underneath the handle are two switches for reverse lights. At 2 o'clock off the steering wheel is the switch for the exhaust brake that changes it from normal operation (foot off the throttle and clutch) to on command using the thumb switch on the shifter. At three o'clock off the steering wheel is the standby/off button for the exhaust brake controller.

I think I paid $25 for my handle, and another $5 in miscellaneous parts (relays, wires, switch for the dash). I have no idea what timcampbell paid, I am just glad I am not the only one who has done this.

I personally really like it. Like he said, use it just to slow down in traffic or going down-hill. Works great. and it beats having to keep your foot slightly on the gas on long down hill descents when all you need to do is burn off about 5mph every mile or so. Sounds like we both still have the option to use the brake normally if you have a load.

I have always preferred the 'T' handle to the round knobs anyways. I had the same plain HURST handle on every vehicle with a manual transmission that I have owned since I started driving.

I've got the BD switch, but after I found out a similar switch can be had from NAPA for less. I'm certain they all rattle, I fixed mine by gooshing just a bit of grease on the shaft with the switch in the open position. No more rubber bands or other contraptions. No rattle either!:D I like the looks of the t-switcher!

I found a round rocker switch (with indicator light) about the same diameter of the little shift pattern insert in the knob. A little BOMBing later resulted in a pretty slick setup. Switch is on top, all wires inside shifter.

I worried I might turn it on accidently, but it hasn't happened more than a couple times. I really like it and use it all the time.

I keep thinking about turning a nice wood knob on my lathe, but there are too many other more important things to do at the moment. Maybe when I find that perfect scrap of wood... . :D

Well I went and bought the shift knob and then realized after installing it that the pushbutton is a momentary switch. This means I have to be holding the button in to get brake action. :( I might have to work out a push-on / push-off circuit with indicator lights. Anyway, here's what it looks like.

I went to my NAPA and the only thing they could find is a switch for a 2 speed axle. Do you happen to know a part#?
