I wish I had gotten some pic's

Good stations to fuel at in Virginia

Yep, he did it the hard way too! Some of it through his nose! You remember that Matt? Course if you want to lose 20lb of ugly fat, you could always just cut off your head... :p

So do you remember how you showed the gals the proper way to pi$$ on the fire?

there was a thread a while back about putting a hy35 on there, and having twins, when are you going to have twin twined diesels?

20lbs is WAY to heavy for his head, there's nothing but diesel flumes where his brain should be. ;) :p

The HY-35 twin turbo VW TDI is in the works... . :D

I'm waiting until I do the transmission in "old smoky" before I really drop the BOMB on it... . I only drive it once a week now - just enough to satisfy my Cummins cravings... .

DD and many others have injectors for them... . I don't know if DD's injectors are just OEM injectors extrude honed or if they are completely new bigger (but still OEM sized) nozzles.

It's not all that hard to get 200hp and 300ft. -lbs. at the wheels with that little 1. 9L that only had 90/155 at the wheels bone stock.

Hi guys,

Interesting this should come up. I saw a nice looking new Jetta yesterday and as he pulled up, I heard that familial diesel sound. He said it had twin turbos and if he took it easy would get 50 MPG? Is this true? ( he also said it was hard to keep his foot out of the turbos and he only got around 35MPH then)

I told my wife we need to drive one of these. She has been looking at Volvos and these are about the same as the S60 in size. What do you think?

You've jumped into a tough crowd there paccool. These guys all know each other face to face or at least know they can give Holeshot and endless hard time.

I don't know about twin turbos, but it's possible. 50mpg is not uncommon for smaller cars running diesel, even the Mercedes gets this kind of mileage I'm told. I've heard good things about both the Mercedes and the VW and wouldn't hesitate to get either.

In the future, you might consider starting your own thread on General Diesel Topics. This thread seems to be about Holeshot adding an exhaust brake to his TDI and they're staying (somewhat) on topic.

Heck... ... ... ... ..... with all the goodies i've added to my truck and all the claims from aftermarket co. that each upgrade adds 10-20% in increased mpg I'm way over 50mpg, there's been times I've had to drain some fuel :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :-{}

Twin turbos?! Pleeezzz... ;)

There is one turbo, between the engine and firewall area behind

the engine. The intercooler is behind/below the right headlight.

I have a 2001 Jetta TDI 5 speed and have been getting 44 MPG

average.

BTW, at the TDIClub forum, the fastest modified TDI VW's are

only doing the 1/4 mile in the high 16s and low 80 MPH range.

My 2001 Ram 2500 ETC/5spd with an early Edge 3 Light box

runs 16. 2 at 86 and that is the only mod I have so far. :D

I get at least 45MPG with my Beetle (city/highway)... . and if I stay to ~85% highway I get 49MPG.

Bone stock TDI's have one Garret VNT-15..... variable nozzle, teeny tiny turbo. It's only good to about 20psi... . but takes . 25 seconds to spool!

Deo Read and I are going to put together a crazy TDI this winter that uses an HY-35 as a secondary in a twin-turbo setup.

And if I can get my act together, I'm planning some crazy stuff for my 6BT and a 3-53 Detroit. :D

I hope this clears up some of the confusion.

BTW, I'm thinking about quilting a sort of big tea cozy for my TDI. Does anyone know if nylon thread will scratch the paint? What material should I use for the liner? Will ScotchGuard stand up to the weather?

I got a PM with some good info:

Hey, I came in late on this one, but here it goes. If that TDI has a variable geometry turbo, DON'T put an exhaust brake on it. I was reading about the ISBe for work, and it states that you cannot run a brake with a VGT.

Hope this helps you out,

Russell

I hope Russell doesn't mind that I posted this... .

The VW TDI does use a VGT... . bummer.

I still have to find out why an exhaust brake is bad for VGT's/TDI's... . I want specifics! :D

hey don't the new third gen dodge cummins have variable nozzle tech too. . i think that is wahy they don't have a new exhaust brake available yet for the 3rd gen strange as dodges lititure states that for a 3500 to have its highest tow rating iut need to use a exhaust brake so thats kinda weird?. . i know the m2 business class freightliners with the mercedse diesel can be optioned with BOTH a engine brake (real "JAKE") ,AND a exhust brake and those engines have vnt or variable nozzle tech or variable vane tech. . any wone know more on that?... i think i'm gonna buy that 3" remote mount e brake and use it on my new ride a 83 vw 2dr jetta with my swapped in tdi i don't have a vnt turbo on that babe so it should work sweet... heheh later
