Exhaust brake operation

I am having difficulties with my 17 3500 and following the exhaust brake as described in the owners manual. It state that you press the burr on 1 time and you get full breaking and a yellow light. Press the button again and you get smart/auto mode and a green light.

When I press mine it flashes a msg saying the full exhaust braking is on. If I press it again, it turns the system off..

is my manual wrong>. Is my 3500 malfunctioning? Is this the ways it’s supposed to work

You're following the correct procedure for full then auto. Not sure if you've got something hung up in the button or not. I know sometimes when pressing mine, it'll go from full to off if I press it to fast. I've gotten into the habit of pressing once then after a bit of a pause, press again for auto. Hope you can flush the gremlins out and get it to function correctly! Good luck and hope you don't have to take in for service.

I’m going 2022 new truck. Will I like the tow haul mode. My current 99 has a bd exhaust brake will I be disappointed It has 200 hp braking. What is the tow haul and how does it work

I believe the oem exhaust brake is rated at 225 HP max.
Tow/haul is an alternate shift schedule, keeps it from shifting as soon and not as often, holds gears longer, and also downshifts through the gears as you slow to take better advantage of the engine and exhaust braking.
It's most advantageous in hills/mountains.

My 2012 Exhaust brake is excellent, especially when coupled with tow/haul... a great combination
