Ditto on the BD brake...had mine on for 115,000 miles...and not one problem. Had a Pac Brake on my 12 valve for 125,000 miles and only had a vacuum actuator seal fail which was promptly replaced under warranty.

Looking For More Comments / Suggestions / Etc.

Have read all the very good information about the exhaust brakes.
Here is what I have :
2001 , 4X4, L.B. Q.C. 47RE transmission (stock). Engine upgraded with just the Banks Power Pac Kit.

In reading all the posts, I am getting very confused about which one is "The best", with least amount of problems.
I looked at Banks' unit, as they seem to have a very large opening through port.
Called the tech guy at Banks, and he told me it can be incorporated along with the Power Pac unit. He also told me all the good things about it, that were better than the others. I guess if I called "The others", they would tell me good things about theirs too !
Do "The others" have at least a 4" through port opening ?

Isn't there a saying "Cummins makes the grade"? It's coming down the other side that bothers me !

Additional comments & suggestions are very much appreciated.

Respectfully,
Peter

Since you have the Banks kit I would go with the Banks exhaust brake, and I have the Pac Brake. That way it all goes together. Whichever one you get you will need the lock up switch since you have an auto.

Thank you klcammie.
I was kind of thinking on the same lines too.
Yes, the tech at Banks said I definitely would need the "Smartlock Transmission Controller". Is that what you call the lock up switch ?
Thanks for your input.

Yes it has several names.
what it does is lock up the torque converter so that the exhaust works. You will love the e brake I've had mine 5 yrs now still have the samr brake shoes and pads that where on there when installe.

one thing that you have to know is that the brake operates on Exhaust back pressure. Higher the rpm the more effective it is, lower rpm is not so. But you can not over rev the rpm either. The pacbrake is a dry system, and lubed on the moving joints only on the outside of the unit. The solenoid needs cleaning periodically, and no lube is to be used on re-assembly as this will gum it up. the vacuum cylinder is a dry unit and a high temp synthetic lube such as pacbrake's lube is designed for use on the joints and clevis connection, a drop on the shaft couple times a year. Nothing is to be used inside the cylinder, and use the exhaust brake regularly to keep it free and operating.
How I know all this, I just replaced my cylinder, I screwed up and it cost me dearly. So I am passing on what I have learned.
On the older units such as mine, C14000 manual trans, ignore the instruction on the lube bottle, and do not lube the cylinder as it points out to do. Pointed this out to pacbrake person and he said "ya I know its for the newer units" So don't do it. If in dought ask questions before you do it.
