I'm checking into exhaust brakes for a 2004. 5 5. 9 cummins with six speed manual.

I'm looking for recomendations for suppliers and installers In the L. A. Ca. area.

Also looking for opinions re: Pacbrake vs. Jacobs.

Keep it clean, no punching in the clenches.

Go to your Dodge dealer they should be able to sell you one. But go to a dealer that sells a bunch of diesel trucks!I have the Jake and am very happy with it. Done a good job coming down I-8 In south CL.

Go PAC. I have had both. The vacuum pump in the Jacobs one is problematic. I went through 4 before I gave up. Many others have had issues too. You can find a bunch of threads with the SEARCH button.

With the PAC you get a compressor that is good for air bags and an emergancy air source.

my $. 02,

Aaron

Jelag should chime in here, I stongly recomend the Pac-brake w/the air compressor over the Jacobs w/the vaccume pump

I third the opinion. I put the Pacbrake PRXB on mine with the shifter on/off switch and it works GREAT!! Did I say It works GREAT? I went on a 3,000mi trip to Yellowstone and back towing our 28ft trailer. I wouldn't now travel towing without it! My truck is also the 6spd stick. The brake works well over the whole range of RPM. My $0. 02

I had been planning on getting the PacBrake installed on my 05 CTD with a 6 speed NV5600, however a TDR member, who's opinion I highly trust, is recommending the Jacob. Now I'm confused. I need to hear more advantages of one over the other.

the pac or bd work way better than the jacobs or banks. they do not use the troublesome vacuum pump. i have a small preference of the bd over the pac mainly where the compressor mounts. in your area you should have a bd installer/seller install the switch on the gear shift

Well, I've been sitting in Cleveland for the past 4 days on business... and frankly with meetings all day and time spent afterwords sitting and shooting the **it like most of us do I haven't had a chance.....

The key thing that I like about the pacbrake is that it is separate system, so your not required to have a mechanical vacuum pump run by the engine... instead you have a small electric compress that can run a group of things. .

The compressor keeps a tank filled so you can supply, not only the pacbrake but air bags, air horns, and have an extra air supply... however the compressor is not designed to do car or truck tires... but will do bicycle tires etc...

The latest design I personally believe works better than the Jacobs... in that it comes up to the max 60 psi faster and stays there longer with with the relief system it has... you can't run more than 60 psi as back pressure as you might open an exhaust valve at the wrong time...

I own several work trucks, as you can see below... we know that you can tow up to 15,000 lbs of trailer weight and if your in the right gear, you can go down a 6% grade without the service brakes... and for us its all in brake life and the extra safety margin... our 04, now with 260K miles went to 160K before the first brake job... and we pulled a 23K lb trailer around the pacific northwest...

For years we were one of the largest Jacobs engine brake distributors in the NW... . but switched to PacBrake for features and benefits... . that must have been 20 years ago or so... and of course if you now want a Jake brake its installed by the factory when you order the truck... or for that matter a pacbrake...

Grizzly... as much as I'd like to twist your arm... and bend you my way... what I really suggest is that you go to both their web sights and look at features... and decide for your self... I'd love to have the business but respect that some guys really think the other product is better.....

If you have any other questions feel free to email me...

My Pacbrake is one of the best mods I have done to my truck. Towing in the hills now requires very little service brakes.

And installing it yourself is not hard to do. Just take your time and follow the directions and it will go smooth

i have installed several pac and bd by myself it is very easy to do. both have excellent instructions and requires very few tools, about 4 hours and you are up and running

Pacbrake quit

At 64k miles my Pacbrake quit. The factory is stepping up and helping me solve the problem. I removed the air compressor and solenoid and sent them back to the factory. When I powered the air comp. from the battery directly it sounded like it was full of rocks... . not good.

I really miss having it on my truck as I used it all the time, towing or not towing.

For what it's worth, I have had my Jake in my '06 speed for 60000 miles. Never a problem with the pump. I use it constantly, even local driving without a load. The ONLY negative might be the 2 second delay before activation, but that has really never caused a problem. 2 seconds??

Factory is Excellent

My previous experience with PacBrake has been excellent and once again it repeated... ... ... .....

My air compressor grenaded. I sent it back, they tested it and found the main bearing bad. They said it was way out of warranty but they did replace it, added a new solenoid and shipped it back for a VERY nominal price.

I really like doing business with a top notch company like that where they do value the customer.

Thanks PacBrake. :)
