Those are some PRETTY pieces of work. To bad that they will discolor with the heat.

As I tried to point out earlier that the reason for the 2nd gen style was used was to let the engine breath better and get away from the 5/6 close arrangment. Re-arrangment might be a problem because of the shortened front end, versus space. The ones that have done it like it.

Thanks seafish for this info. Have any of these been flow tested? Would an aftermarket 2nd gen really be that much better than a aftermarket 3rd gen?

I ran a FabShop header for a while, it is a quality product, I went to twins and now run a 2nd gen manifold. I'd still be running the FabShop if I hadn't gone to twins. I sold the FabShop header to a friend, he loves it.

CD, thanks for the update.

I am curious as to which of the 2nd gen manifolds you chose to run ??

I have an ATS. Spoolup is slower because of larger ports and passages. If you want quicker spoolup smaller passages for higher velocity. I dropped some cruising boost and egt wasn't an issue before and wasn't after.

That's not actually a homemade manifold. That's the LoveFab Twin Turbo Kit for 6. 7's. It was one of the first twin kits on the market to use the stock turbo in conjunction with an S400 series.

Well, it's still ugly :-laf !!

Thanks for clearing that up... do you have alink to LoveFab you can post so we can look at their current work??

U can always take a 2nd gen manifold an flip it so the flange faces up. . U can then mount the turbo at approx valve cover level like a twin - just run it single. . I may get a seedspeed and flip it - run a garret stage 2 single. . sweet turbo singing. . Can't beat the flow/heat run off of a 2nd gen. .

Any one have any pics of a flipped 2nd gen in place on a 3rd gen? I am thinking about this for a couple reasons. I am slowly upgrading suspension parts and the stock shock tower was very close to the turbo. I needed to raise the tower up to gain travel in doing so I had to grind away on the stock tower to clear the turbo. To use the 2nd gen manifold would require some modding of the piping from the intake box and to the intercooler. Just trying to get an idea of how big a project that would be.

AFE also makes a Stainless Bladerunner exhaust manifold whick LOOKS pretty nice, as does HTT, BUT there are a couple threads on TDR started by members who have had some issues with cracking from these manufactureers, followed up by unresponsive and unhelpful customer service ...

Any updates on AFE exhaust manifolds? Since ATS are on major back order and Steed Speed doesn't make one that is a stock replacement ( I don't want to replumb everything right now ) I was considering the AFE manifold. Shad

hey guys. . GREAT news. Leen, at SteedSpeed has designed and manufactured a plug'nplay exhaust manifold for 3rd gen, 5. 9 CTDs right now, with a 6. 7 version on the way.
IT is VERY nice, and has already been dynoed against a stock 3rd gen by Fleece Performance. I am traveling roday, but will post pics that he sent me tomorrow.

I have had the AFE manifold on for a while. No problems. I have never seen or heard of one cracking

Here is a link to pics of the new SteedSpeed 5. 9 exhaust manifold.

DEFINITELY check out pic #1 and #2, it shows the passages BEFORE the manifold halves are welded together. If you look closely, you can see how each one of the exhaust ports is plumbed to the T3 flange. VERY cool.

I am waitng for him to finish manufacturing the 6. 7L version of the manifold so that I can use it to plumb the HE351ve VGT turbo onto my 2005.
